For one, I believe having sounds in a webpage is a horrible idea and will retract from the overall presentation of your site.

However, many sites still have a "person" that talks when the page is open, introducing the reader to the webpage/service. I find this very annoying and I immediately want to leave the site. However, sound during a webpage can possibly increase revenue with more advertising and attracting attention faster (As most people have very short attention spans on the internet)

What are your thoughts?

I hate sites that have that person drop in from the top or side obstructing my view of the site. I think embedded sounds/music should be disabled by default, if you absolutely need it on your site of course.

bad bad bad idea
I don't even bother with a site if it's playing music when I enter..

Sound on a website is so under 2000. Nobody should be using music on their page. It's a huge turn off, and you'll lose visitors over it. Best bet, make a page, and make it load a youtube video if that's what your web page is all about. But, music by default = a no, no.

Bad, very, very bad! I used to find it cool, but that was back in the days of school/college and now I find it extremely annoying

I find it alright if its a record producing website or an artists website but music on a site is a NONO as I hate it myself when I listen to Dubstep, Kanye west, Jayz or Mt eden and hear music fighting with my current one on youtube.

I have music on my site -- it's one of the things I kept onsite after upgrading from a flash site. I think music is okay to have on a page if it enhances the page. HUGE factor is if you're having music play on the page - make it so the user can easily locate the PLAY/STOP button. This way there's no need for the user to click out of the site - but simply click the stop button :)

I suppose I'm in the minority opinion on this issue LOL

Always a bad idea. It's so 90's. It annoys most people as it annoys me. If people want to listen to music then they will on their ipods, it's not necessary for a web page to provide it.

I could see how it would work on your site.
I'm sure it would work on some but it would annoy me if I landed on a page and it was playing some type of audio file, especially if I was watching or listening to something on the computer already.
