Is almost a year old now. I bought it in early Jan 2006 and it will be up for renewal in Jan 2007 (which will be here sooner than we want).

Anyway, I've been thinking about changing names again. To something without the *southern* in it.

So put your thinking caps back on...

Some of the ones I've dreamed up in the last few days:
thyme-square
coffeeklatch
back-and-forth
my-gazebo
gazebo-friends

But let your imagination run with this.

And do we want to focus on any one section? Liz

I don't know about focusing on any one forum, since this has been fairly general. I kinda' like it that way. But with the generality, comes the hospitality and friendliness that y'all have shown. So, IMO, whatever name that reminds people of those two characteristics would be great for this forum.

Just some random thoughts that might stir up some thoughs:
  • Hospitality Room (maybe not, sounds like a place to drink?)
  • Friends & Friends
  • Make Friends (maybe not, sounds like a dating service?)
  • The Friendly Bunch
  • Banana Bunch
  • The Friendly Bananas (?)
  • Cordiality Incorporated
  • The Cordial Bunch (I kinda' like that one)
  • Social Gazebo
  • Social Cafe
  • Benevolence Society (good grief!)
  • Friends Anonymous (though we aren't anon)
  • Neighbors Galore!
  • Family Time
Okay, my brain is fried....you might tell that by some of those listed.

Just a couple from me:

Park Place

The Living Room

Carol

P.S. What about "The Gathering Place"?

Hmmm I'm thinking something homey.... but darned if I can think up something.

Home at last

My first thought on that was.. no sounds like a military thing or a home bound rehab, but then I thought... No.. it sounds like us.. so many of us looking for that place on the web that gave us the feeling of friendship and family... when we were in search of something.. whether it was a guiding light during an illness or even just friendship when your family and friends were far away..... after all thats what I was looking for when I found Liz, and Carol, and so many others right here on the web.... and finally we have been able to stop bouncing around... and here we have found a Home at last......

Kelly

Okay maybe that won't work... real estate people... man snagging up the good names....

However what is available is

Home on the web

But I don't like that as well, and i'm thinking anyway we do it...gonna end up with lots of people looking for real estate.

Kelly

Oh it just hit me.... over the fence

LOL, Kelly, I know the mental image you're trying to convey, but somehow I can't get past feeling like a herd of sheep or cattle! lol

Liz, why is it you don't want to keep Southerngazebo as the name? I think it works well.

Have you noticed the LACK of new signups? I'm hoping an overhaul, including the theme will help. Liz

I've referred to this place as "The Gazebo" for a while now. Or, possibilites

Midlife Crisis (although not all of us are in midlife!)
The Parlor
The Front Porch
Dimensions
Stircrazy
I like Back and Forth

As far as focusing on any particular section--the only one I'm any good at is the Gardening section--if that would be deemed a focus, "Wisteria" would be a lovely name, mine hasn't bloomed for 10 years but it is a pretty name!

Whatever you decide, Liz, it will be a great choice! Oooh, "Whatever" might be an appropriate name, too?

Yes, I've noticed, but then even before when we'd get newbies, they wouldn't post or stay long if they did post! It might just be that everyone is really busy in their lives and don't find time to browse the Internet.

Hmm.. have we not had these discussions before? As I've said before, I think that this forums strength is also it's weakness. It's strength, to me, is that it's not full of teens chatting about the TV, and hot guys (not that there's anything wrong with those subjects (lol), but you know what I mean.) It's a place for fun yet mature discussion, daily chit chat, but also serious support when you need it.

However, that's also it's weakness.. when new members sign up, they probably percieve a small group of people who know each other well, and chat about their everyday life. That can appear to be 'cliquey', even though that isn't the intention.

I appreciate what Liz is saying.. with a good name, there are options to make a good theme, which might attract more people. Also, to me, using 'Southern' in the titile does give it a very American feel, and it's also quite possible that people view it as a board only for those in the South.

There is a good focus here.. on cooking, gardening, family etc, with an emphasis on maturity. How to reflect that in a name and theme, however, I'm not sure.

There may be a simple solution to that aspect, but it could appear more cliquey. The Daily Thread forum could have a minimum post count required before members could see it or post (and that could be handled with promotions). Yes, that makes it appear more like a clique, but it promotes them to that group after they have made some contributions in other places on the forum. So in the second sense, they are already becoming part of the community before they see the Daily Thread and join in there. Something to think about.

Some more thoughts:
  • The Gathering Place (Carol mentioned, but I liked it)
  • Friends & Family
  • All in the Family (sitcom?)
  • Maturity Arising
  • The Up & Up
  • Friendly Discussions
  • The Friend's Place or Parlor or Porch (etc.)
  • Always Friends
  • Everything Friendly (I kinda' like this one, too)
Just trying to stir up the ol' grey matter!

Dave :clapping:

The problem with this is that there isn't always alot of activity outside of the daily thread. And you need activity to encourage new members to join in.

Good point, Michelle. We might have to work a little harder in other forums if we did that, huh.

More for thought:
  • Friendly Persuasion
  • Group Therapy (hehe, I wonder what people would think)
  • Porch Homecoming
