Yea they are doing better I guess...but its hard to interveen when you play the same game rigth along side them...I played FFxi for about a year and a half played UO for about 9 months City of heroes for about 6 months, Ragnarok all through Open Beta, Guild Wars from when it was released publicly, and Rose Online.....when I have time ^^. Gaming is one of the very few things I do really well in my opinion and yes I am fully aware that its one of my addictions, but I have always known when to unplug, when to go eat, sleep etc. and speaking from these experiences the voices of loved ones friends and family to those that are really addicted to these games become whispers and shadows so much that to the extreme cases (similiar to my hospitalized friend) that its hard to tell whats real and fake.
