Just horrible. Was it really worth it? A damned radio prank?

British nurse Jacintha Saldanha found dead in suspected suicide two days after she was tricked into revealing condition information about pregnant Kate Middleton to Australian shock jocks

Saldanha's lifeless body was found the same week she accidentally put prank callers Mel Greig and Michael Christian through to another nurse, who divulged private information about the Duchess of Cambridge. The prank call to the King Edward VII’s Hospital employee infuriated Buckingham Palace and led to taunting tweets from DJs that brag about the trick...

Now, radio pranks are not nice, but I'm sure this wasn't the only factor in her suicide. She has a husband and kids at home for goodness sake. The hospital wasn't planning to discipline her.

There is more to this story I am sure!! It takes a lot to get up the nerve to commit suicide and it is usually someone that is severely mentally ill therefore not in their right mind to go through with it so there had to be signs of this before the prank incident!

I believe the world wide humiliation, guilt, & bullying as a result of the prank were overriding factors in her suicide. She would have been inundated by media requests & papparazzi nonstop.

I read multiple stories about this and this is the only one that has suggested suicide so far. I hope that isn't it...

Suicide is the ultimate selfish act. No excuse for it. Why is she the focus anyway? She wasn't the one who actually released the info from what the article states.

She was working on the hospital switchboard & was the one who put the call through to the nurse who gave out the info. She was working as a gatekeeper & call screener.

The nurse who gave out the info would have assumed that if the call came through, it had been properly vetted.

I totally disagree with your statement. Every situation is different in why a person completes. It is not that cut and dry.

I have delt with families that were left behind and each story is different. Your statment/feelings, believe me you are not alone in your feelings, is why some people feel that they have no other choice.....they feel that people will not understand just how hopeless they feel.

Some people who complete are the most caring, giving, loving people and have never given anybody a reason to know how much emotional pain they are in....mental illness is still kept in the dark because of the fear of being judged.

As a nurse I am horrified by this. Let me just tell you, we walk a very fine line betweeen what to tell families and what not to say, especially over the phone. Families can become irate and abusive when you explain that you cannot give specific info over the phone. And because the whole name of the game is pleasing both patients and families it is difficult to decide what to do. Sure maybe the hospital says now that there would have not been any action taken but that is hard to believe especially in this day and age. Feel that some action should be taken against the DJs for their "bit". Years ago the pathetic radio duo of Opie and Anthony were pulled off the air for having a contest about the wildest place to have sex and they put on the air a couple who were having sex in a confessional in church. I feel for the nurse's family who are left to carry on. So very sad

Patti, you stating they feel no one understands them only confirms my point. Suicide is a selfish act. I have personal experience with it.

Anyone else find it disturbing that a there is a nurse so gullible that she believes the queen of england needs to call a hospital for an update on kate middleton, or so unstable that an incident like this can make excuse her suicide?

I never said that no one understands them all...there are situations where the person completes and takes someone with them...that is anger, that is I'll teach you...that is being selfish...with a chemical imblance mixed in.....but there are people who complete and it is not for selfish reasons...they are all in some type of emotional, undiscribable pain...the one incident is not what causes someone to suicide it is the last drop in the glass that spills over...many people who are mentally ill are very good at covering it up.....as a rational person we willl never understand because we are not chemically imbalanced.......What I did say is that each situation is different....and I have personally experienced it too many times over....have you ever sat down and spoke with the family who lost someone? and I am not talking about someone you know, who has dissapointed you over and over again with their actions....I'm talking about people that you never knew before...the people left behind...Sat and listened to a complete stranger tell you their story about their loved one. I can say that here is nothing selfish about a 4th grader hanging himself in his bedroom...they do not have the tools to deal with what they are feeling...they want the pain to stop and do not understand how permenant their actions are.

So I will say it again all suicides are not the ultimate selfish act....and until you sit with a mother who has lost their child to this disease....you have no clue about the disease itself.

and, just to drive my point home...you have had "personal experience with it"....I am sure this person made a lot of people miserable with their actions....

My experience has been with complete strangers.....
