Teacher Gifts

teachers do not want mugs!! they get a zillion! some also don't want homemade treats (you don't know what a person's kitchen looks like) gift cards are REALLY appreciated. ( have a friend whos a 5th grade teacher)

I like the hand sanitizer, super cute.

I was going to make "moose munch" with the cheap kettle corn this week...do you think the teachers would throw it out? I don't want to make anything that they will just throw out, but I can't afford gift cards.

If your child's teacher KNOWS you, has met you and spoken with you several times during the school year, chances are she or he will probably eat the homemade goodies. If the teacher does not personally know you, then it is very unlikely the food will be eaten. Not long ago, my daughter was given homemade goodies by a student and when she mentioned it to the other teachers, they said "you're not going to eat that, are you?"

I never eat anything my kids make me. Even if they are clean, you never know how their house is. They could have animals that climb on things, parents that don't clean the house, etc.

Well I am going to go out on a limb and say I have never given any teacher gifts, not even to the really good ones.

Just a precedent I wasn't interested in setting. I do send LOTS of classroom supplies throughout the year. I think they appreciate that too.

I agree it is a bit out of hand; last year my neighbor got a request for $20 PER CHILD for a baby gift for their pg teacher (which would be over $300) what???? I tend to keep it simple, too, and do not do teacher pg gifts...

That's just ridiculous IMO. I have a hard enough time getting $2-$3 from each kids family to cover the cost of the parties!

I share the gift of "my son" in yourclassoom sharing his brilliance and sense of humor, alllll yearrrr longggg!! How about dem apples???:giggles:

No, seriously, I did a enrichment class for just one hour for 4 thursdays and being a teacher is hard work, big responsibility and valuable job alll mixed up in one person!! Something simple and sweet is always nice to give your teachers because they are making a lasting imprint on your child's future!! I have a ton of coffee mugs to give but yeah the teachers that have been around a while, will have a ton as well!! I will be making the sanitizer bottles because that is really a cool and encourages your kids to be clean and the teacher is happy!! no :snort:

My DS's teacher sends home thank yous and notes on little notepaper with her name on it, so I got her another pad of those with Shutterfly credit I got from buying school pictures. According to his report card he's very disruptive so maybe something else too. Perhaps a book for her classroom library.

I usually do a $5 GC for DD's daycare teachers and maybe a cute note or a couple of cookies.

Oh, the book for the classroom library is a great idea!! My daughter spends a fortune on them, even though most come from garage sales! Just make sure that the book you purchase is something that can be in the classroom. If you want it to be a surprise, ask another teacher in the same grade level if the book you are thinking of giving is okay.

I know some of you said that you cannot afford giftcards but even a simple $5.00 giftcard is a nice, appreciated gift and usually around the same price as a mug. I swear that Panera giftcards are the best because it can be for a breakfast sandwich, a regular sandwich at lunch, coffee, or bread/bagels.

When couponing was at its best, I got cute, reusable, large thermal bags for $1.00 and then filled them with Seattle's Best coffee, Swiss Miss hot chocolate, OR popcorn, chocolates, and other misc. freebies. My kids' teachers LOVED these filled bags!

I do like the germ gel idea too. And Skincarekathy's giving supplies throughout the year is appreciated too.

My mom loved the giftcards and REALLY loved the personalized paper/notecards! She wrote lots of notes. She worked at an expensive private school and got REALLY good stuff. I remember Godiva chocolates and a waterford crystal ornament. We would LOVE the last day of school before the holidays when we could see her stash!

Ds12 has a male teacher--found on pinterest a "layered" trail mix (layer of cashews, layer of christmas m&m's, walnuts, raisins, ect) in a mason jar that looks really cute. I'll probably add a Starbucks giftcard.

Give'm gift cards.....Teachers don't want all that crap from the kids!!!

JK!!!! I'm sure they will like what ever the kiddos give them! :giggles:

I usually hit the bath and body works sale in July for Christmas teacher gifts and January sale for end of the school year gifts.this Christmas they are getting BBw oil burners and I have a little candle shop by me that sells the oils they make their candles with.hopefully they like it.

I know, Steve. I wish I could afford to give them all gc's. I made the post-it note holders & clipboards last night. DH said, "Those are nice, but we're getting DD7's teacher MORE, right?" :snort: Last week I told her teacher "I bet we are both counting down the days to winter break, but for vastly different reasons regarding the same child." She didn't disagree. You know it's bad when your bff goes to a wake & there is a teacher from the school your kid goes to (but not HER teacher) at the wake & she says to your bff, "What the **** are A & R doing?! That girl is going to run A ragged!" :surrender:
