Re: finishing a basement ceiling on the cheap
here is what i did to make our basement a WHOLE LOT more inviting without a finished ceiling (cause that's where the spiders and their webs collect)
anyway, i bought bolts (yards and yards ) of very inexpensive fabric (TIP: walmart often has $1 per yard stuff they are just trying to get rid of)
then i stapled the fabric, drape-like to the wooden joists from the floor above to give the illusion of a ceiling. Worked like a charm for years and made a HUGE difference in how dusty it got. also installed cheap hanging lights from IKEA that just plugged into a socket in the ceiling. the wiring and sockets were all out of view as they were not visable with the fabric draped and stapled.
must say, that trick kept us good for several years. our basement is finished now, but i would do it again if we moved and could not afford to finish the ceiling.
