next year i'll be going to college, and i've already decided that i'm going with a new computer

should i buy one pre-put together or should i build one? i already know that my boss can get the parts (or whole thing) wholesale for me, but which way should i go? the project of building my own is tempting... price, i guess, is an object, since every penny saved will be spent on more expensive stuff

i'd suggest you build you your own.. if.. (big if).. you've built your own system before or you have someone there physically to help you.

well, i've never actually built a computer before, but i have done a lot of working with computers as my summer job (i.e., taking them apart and replacing stuff) and i was able to take my computer completely apart and put it back together (and it worked, since i'm talking to you now).

also, i like to know what's "under the hood" - i made the mistake of buying a compaq and it doesn't have any agp slots, so i can't upgrade the video card, and the sound card is hardwired, etc.

i personally love building my own machine
but
when i got this machine for school i got it for a reason
1) it had everything i needed at a good price

2) warranty warranty warranty
i got this sucker at gateway and as far as needing something replaced, they don't even ask why or how or anything
they just send the new part
very useful
just my thoughts
