I plan to buy a new bed with those popular memory foam. I found lots of different brands now available in the market with Tempur-pedic as the most expensive. Should I buy that expensive brand or some other cheaper brands? Do they actually produce the same quality products? Any suggestion or comments?

Thanks,

Hello happywoman,
welcome to the soup.

I don't think I can link to the site but Im sure a search for them is easy. Try a company called Komfi. I got my bed from there and its great! Much much cheaper than Tempur. They come with a 5 year guarantee and you can have a months free trial to see if its the one for you. I'm really happy with mine and so is everyone else I know with one (we're a growing group!). It's done wonders for my back and my sleep!
Good luck

I have Tempur-pedic pillows, and tried the Tempur-pedic mattress.
I heartily recommend the pillows, and recommend against the mattress.

The pillows are very firm and heavy, and do a good job of supporting your head and neck.

With the mattress, you sort of sink into it, and like mj said, once that happens, it's really difficult to move during the night because you're in a hole.
Also, the foam surrounds you. It doesn't just cushion under you... it molds completely around your body. Combine that with the fact that it doesn't breathe, and you'll see where I'm going with the next issue... sweat. You will sweat like a mule, even on cold nights, on any part of your body that's against the foam because it's like wearing a foam suit. There's no air circulation near your skin, so you just lay there insulated all night.
The pillows do this too, to a certain extent, but it's different having a sweaty head, compared to having your entire body sweat.

It's also ultra-firm, so if you like a soft-cushy mattress, it's definintely not for you. Even with the amount of give it has, it's still going to feel hard as a rock.

It's definintely a try-before-you-buy item, but between the price and the issues with it, I found that a high-quality standard mattress was a better fit. I later ended up buying the mattress pad instead of the full blown mattress, since it gave a nice bit of firmness and support, but also left some of the cushion of the underlying mattress. It's also a significantly cheaper option and you get the best of both worlds.

I'm with mousefur here (infact reccomended her to the Komfi people), altho that particular company is based in the UK.
As for sweating, yeah, it is prone to being quite hot so you need less covers but otherwise I wouldn't swap it for the world. I've had the mattress for over a year now and it's the best investment I've ever made.

I would reccomend getting a money back trial if you can because it certainly isn't for everyone and takes getting used to. Tempurpedic is almost twice the price for a very similar product so shop around too. The specification you need for a decent quality mattress is open cell high density foam top with a firm latex layer underneath... some cheaper products do NOT offer this. Overall that's at least 7-8" in delth. Using a pad over an exsisting mattress might work for you, but only if the mattress is firm, in good shape without a discernable dip in it. As for the pillows, they rock!

Good luck, and welcome to the affray :)
