What's new

This is enough to piss ya off!!!

I was just about the same age and certainly wasn't into politics then (that came a bit later). His whole theme of "morning in America" really was effective. He gave lots of folks a warm fuzzy feeling about their country again and really seemed to be in charge.

As an adult, I've come to realize a president is really only as good as his the people he chooses to surround himself with, but at the time, to me at least, he really seemed to have everything under control.

I was in 6th grade when Regan took office. I didn't know much about politics....but he is the one prez that made me feel safe. I have NO idea why....just a kid's perception of things. It was like having grandpa be in charge.

AND when the crisis in Iran ended the day of his Inauguration it felt like he was so respected and feared by the bad guys they knew better than to mess with him.

Again, has nothing to do with politics or policies or china patterns....just a 12 year old's reminiscing.

Maybe we should just say that all politicians (and often their families) take a few too many liberties with their positions of power and abuse a lifestyle paid for largely by taxpayers. Michelle Obama went to Spain; Laura Bush and her daughters went on safari in Africa. Look at the last two IL governors - one Repub and one Dem, and they're both either in jail or will be soon (hopefully). I think this sort of abuse is definitely a bipartisan problem.

This is exactly what I thought!! How many vacations do they get, and how much money is spent and placed on the backs of taxpayers?? People are being laid off or have lost their jobs and foreclosing on their homes and they keep taking vacations!!

It is NOT traditional for each administration to pick out new china. China is usually only ordered when there has been too much breakage, multiple administrations have used old china. No other administration made as much of a stink about it as Reagan's.

They showed no compassion, no remorse, just silence. It was a disgrace.

Looks like you've finally come out from any pretense of polite behavior and shown your true colors. No matter what inane things you have posted, I never stooped to say you were a rude ****, I was raised better than that.

It is tradition for EVERY first lady to redecorate as they see fit including china!

A couple things come to mind reading this:

1. I found it strange that Barack was alone for his birthday. Couldn't they have scheduled the trip around his bday?

2. I don't think there would have been such an outcry if Michelle were spending all this
money supporting OUR economy.

And speaking of Aids, Pres Bush did more than any president so far, making a huge impact and saving millions in Africa and no one really talks about it.

Hell, my boss stays in $500/night hotels all the time. He routinely spends more than my annual salary on a week's vacation...because he can. She's the frickin' first lady, she deserves a vacation. Where's she supposed to go, Busch Gardens?? Sorry if I'm not outraged.
But I as a taxpayer don't pay for your bosses vacation

No but as a taxpayer you pay for YOUR bosses vacation.... ummm the president runs the country you live in.

And what about all the damage the Clintons did when moving out and the stuff they took with them?
And I hope that the Obama's just stay away from here because we can not afford to hire all the police to shut down everything while the Pres goes through. Can't he keep his AZZ at the White House????

CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports the C-32A (757) the First Lady used to fly to Spain - one of the planes that usually serves as Air Force Two, and sometimes Air Force One - operates at a Department of Defense reimbursement rate of $11,351 per hour.

So a 6.5 hour flight to Spain would run $73,781.50 - double for the round trip.

According to CBS News, the tax dollar part of the vacation include an estimated $146,000 round trip cost for the U.S. Air Force 757 aircraft, not counting ground time; about $95,000 in hotel costs for an estimated 70 security -- Secret Service and military -- who get a $273 per day government per diem, plus costs for the dozen or so cars in her motorcade. I'm told that three shifts of agents are needed for a trip of this magnitude.

Ok, so if you total the entire cost of this trip it seems to me that we are stimulating spains economy rather than our own and a total of 70 security people plus a whole entourage of family and friends. I disagree with taking 8 vacations especially when they were just in Florida preaching how we should all travel there to help the gulf coast. I also don't agree with the use of U.S. Air Force aircraft for personal trips. So far I have not seen her do anything for this Country except preach about how fat our kids are (ummm..the last time I heard was that the President, her husband is still smoking and eating at fast food joints) gimme a break!!:ranting:

do you believe every conspiracy theory known to man?
No, I read. Have you read many of the multitude of books written by insiders from the administration? Did you watch the press conferences where Nancy stood next to Ron and was seen and heard whispering answers to the reporters' questions to him?
