I hate the smell of vinegar but hear so many wonderful things about its cleaning ability. We are having our kitchen floor replaced Monday and the guy said to clean it with vinegar and water. UGH!!! Are there scented vinegars??????

I have read somewhere at some time that you can add essential oils but DH insists that I should not use that when cleaning the floor.

Any suggestions????

THANKS :)

It is a laminate. We took out the pergo in the kitchen and are are replacing it with the wood laminate that looks like tiles.

Hmmm...maybe someone here has laminate & will let you know what will work as well as the vinegar/water that the installer is suggesting.

Will you take a picture when you're done? My mom is considering getting tiles that looks like wood & I'm curious to see what it looks like "in real life" rather than in a stock photo.

I have engineered hardwood, which isn't the same as laminate, and I use bleach water. :p

I have only used vinegar and water on my hardwood floors and it's great. You do not smell it after the floor dries, only in the bucket. I don't know how it will work on laminate. Give it a try. I love that it kills germs.

no problem
We have the installation scheduled for Monday so if all goes well I will post a pic that night.

These are laminate planks of 12x12 looking tiles. I cannot remember if it is 2 or three tiles per plank.
We had Pergo and I wanted ceramic but because I fall a lot and drop things I did not want to risk breaking them (or me.) So they showed us this and I love it - hope it looks just as good if not better when installed. This will finish off our kitchen home improvements that we started last year. We just need a new window (DH wants blinds built in like the sliding glass doors.)

We have wood laminate that looks like tile in our kitchen. We love it! Everyone who comes over insists it is ceramic tile and has to touch it to be sure. (Even our realtor) I usually just clean it with swiffers and sometimes the steam mop. I think I will try vinegar now though, thanks for the tip!

I have all wood, and laminate wood, floors. I have always used essential oils with vinegar to clean them. Now that I have a steam cleaner, I use just the water in the steamer, but still add a couple of drops of essential oils to the cleaning pad. Once vinegar is dry there is no smell at all. It makes a great air freshener too. Unlike Glade, vinegar will actually kill odor causing germs, then be scentless when it is dry (or scented if you add essential oils).

See I swear someone told me at some point not to use a steamer on laminate. Have to look into that

Vinegar smell = clean. I use my Shark steam mop with water in it, and have a spray bottle with vinegar that I mist the floor with while steaming. No foggy residue, and the smell is gone when it dries. The uses for vinegar are endless! :giggles:
