What's new

what do you think of the new TSA pat downs?

a body scan or a pat down to prevent the loss of innocent life is hardly anything to do with FREEDOM.
I guess it all depends on whether or not a person holds the Constitution's 4th Amendment in high regard.

Body scans and pat downs do nothing to prevent the loss of innocent life.
your freedom is not being taken away.
Again, I guess it all depends on whether or not a person holds the Constitution's 4th Amendment in high regard.
you can choose to not FLY or fly privately, there are many PRIVATE airfields that fly people every day who wish to avoid the scanner or pat down.
I already stated that I currently have no need to fly (and haven't for nearly 30 years), but my reasons have nothing to do with fears about terrorism (which is ZERO fear), nor avoiding the forced waiver of my rights.

People shouldn't have to change their travel plans to avoid places where their rights (freedoms) are denied ... the places that deny people's rights (freedoms) should be disallowed from doing so.

An airport with probably the greatest degree of threat to human life is the Ben-Gurion Airport, yet it's among the safest airports on the whole planet. They manage to provide a safe flying experience for their travelers without violating their rights, and without taking more than 30 minutes to get you from the parking lot to the boarding area. They also manage to do a monster amount of retail sales there.

The way we do security here is ridiculous, and ineffective.
respectfully disagree it is a FREEDOM THING
That's fine. You're certainly free to maintain your own opinions. It doesn't change the fact that it most definitely about freedom for people who support the 4th Amendment (or at the least, the concept that forms its basis).

*blink*
maybe you need to watch ground zero footage again to get a clue. your right to not have the government in your life(NOW THAT IS A ****ING LAUGH, they are in EVERYTHING YOU DO ALREADY BUT OH HELL NO THEY CANNOT MAKE SURE WE ARE SAFE FROM ANOTHER 9/11 NO NO PERSONAL FREEDOMS COME BEFORE THOUSANDS DYING ) does NOT supercede other people's right to not have a PLANE ****ING FLOWN IN TO THIER WORK PLACE. :ranting:

I would prefer them not to be in everything I do.

And yes, I think there should be many precautions. Heck even a full body scan or whatever the heck the airlines want to do. It is not something that needs to be mandated by the government though. The government at large is an incompetent organization.

So, you don't want them to tell the airlines about the no fly list too?
And if there is something going down on board, you don't want the air force to go up there to protect it from crashing into another huge target?

A no fly list is a service that the government is providing to the airlines not something that they are mandating the airlines to do and again having the air force break up **** is a service not a mandate.

So, if we violate #4, then we should also let #2 be ok on the plane.......the right to keep and bear arms...
Unfortunately, the typical progression of serious discussion is to deviate from the topic, not only here, but in real life. Following a portion of someone's reply into unrelated areas is just one way it manifests itself.

I am not interested (in this thread) in discussing the details of cabin de-pressurization concerns, the shooting of innocent people, a pilot's or passenger's competency, hijackers stealing the gun, or any other concerns someone might have with guns on airplanes. I am certainly capable of such a discussion, but it's not the topic here.

That said, the plain response to your questionish statement is: Yes.

Too bad we can't ask the 270 victims of the Lockerbie,Scotland plane bombing what they think of these security measures. Oh, wait...they're dead aren't they? The plane blown apart by terrorist bombs.

To add to the families pain-the bomber they had in custody was released over a year ago because he was supposedly dying of cancer. He was released to live out his'FINAL' days with his family. Last i heard the pos is alive & well. The ministery in Scotland was reviewing his release. Plain & simple-somebody got paid big to let this useless pos out.

Stop ****ing about safety procedures. If ya don't like them then don't fly. Let your family, friend or neighbor be blown up or injured while flying & i bet your views will change.

I have a girlfriend who doesn't like the feeling of flying, so she doesnt

I have another who doesnt like driving over TALL bridges, so she doesnt

My mom doesnt like driving the highway, so she doesnt

If i didnt like going through a scanner or being patted down, i wouldnt fly

I don't think so. If one right is squashed by the government and we complain about that one, we should also complain about another right being squashed.

It's a slippery slope, no?

NO ONE IS FORCING YOU TO GET PATTED DOWN *YOU* are choosing to fly, if YOU want to fly YOU need to follow the rules, there are cars, planes, boats etc...

Why is it off topic? I thought you were complaining about a right being taken away.
None of my posts are casually discussing the basic topic of rights being denied. I am discussing the specific rights afforded by the 4th Amendment being denied. And that specific reference was a reply to a post questioning how scanners and pat-downs are issues of freedom.

Somewhere else, I'd be happy to discuss the right to bear arms, and more specifically, the right to bear them on airplanes. I know there's one person here who can see the value, but I don't believe there's two.
