Curling is a team sport in which stones are slid across a sheet of carefully prepared ice towards a target area. It is related to bowls, boule and shuffleboard.
Two teams, each of four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished blue hone granite stones across the ice curling sheet towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a game, points being scored for the stones resting closest to the centre of the house at the conclusion of each end. An end is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones. A game may consist of ten or eight ends. The throwing technique can induce a curved path, which may be further influenced by two sweepers with brooms who accompany the stone as it slides. A great deal of strategy and teamwork goes into determining the ideal path.
