Holy cow, 48F and cloudy again. Rained all night, 1 1/4", but it's soo warm. No snow in the weeks forcast. Well, "snow showers" come Tuesday. The one major drawback of a mild winter is BUGS! In the garden, yard and deck. Yeeewu

Good news! I finally recieved an offer for the settlement of my "poorly paw". Not quite what I had in mind, so I sent off a counter offer. I'm not sure, but if they don't meet me halfway on this I may take it to an attorney. My beef is that the Workman's comp. company has a lein on any settlement and they want their expenses paid. (medical and wages) I don't feel I should have to pay the medical out of the settlement. After all, I wouldn't have had them if it wasn't for the accident. So, the letter is off and I'm waiting again...

Kelly, I have always "counter" trained my cats with a spray bottle with water and if needed, a bit of ammonia in it. With the nozzle set on stream, you have a 6-8 foot reach. Using a "Sssst!" while squirting them I find they soon respond to the "Ssssst" for any bad behavior and I can put the bottle away.

Did I mention job hunting is as hard as working?

Bye all..........>>>>>>>>>>>*p00f*>>>>>>>

Its supposed to warm here today too. High of 64...

Going to be a busy day today... ended up working yesterday... and now my back hurts... and I have to go back in today.... so the house work is still not going to get done...

As to the cats.... I broke out the water bottle last night... cause swatting them with the kitchen towel was just not getting the job done.. hopefully this works better.

Job hunting really bites, doesn't it?

Who is offering you a settlement, that makes comp think they deserve some of it? and if they do why are they not putting in their own claim?

Kelly

Hi everyone!

they are saying arrives here next week!!! that'd be right the kids go back to school on Monday so no doubt by Weds we will be knee deep in snow!!!

happens every year though usually not til after the Feb break!!!

Anyway how is everyone?? survived the festivities?

Boy its been a long time Julie... Nice to hear from you... everyone doing well I hope?

All is well here.. and we did indeed survive...

Kelly

Good morning. I don't know where winter is either. I'M not hiding it, I promise. Altho here we may need webbed feet cause it's RAINED so much!

Kelly, we use canned air to train ours but we also do NOT leave anything uncovered on the counter. If I walk out of the room, the food is in one of four spots, covered on the stove, in the microwave, in the oven, or in the fridge.

Julie, good to see you...you need to edit your email address in your control panel so the forum (ME) can email you when something affects the whole forum...like the name change. WHICH I am glad to see you found thru other means. :)

BD, that is terrible that WC wants a chunk of your settlement...shouldn't be allowed. Liz

Oh I make sure everything is covered... but that little....(add four letter word here) Annie, OPENED the cabinet and took out the loaf of bread, dropped it on the floor and the whole menagrie was in here eating it when I walked in from work yesterday.....

At first I thought I had left it out on the counter.... grumbling to myself I could have sworn I put that away.... HAHHHHH I did... I caught Annie back on the counter with her head in the cabinet last night.... I swear I'm gonna let the dog go loose and crate the dang cats when I leave the house....

Good morning all..it's been rather busy here today. Laura had a 9 am post-op checkup with the dentist so when I woke up at 6:30, I hopped right into the shower. I did get to do my daily jigsaw puzzle at shockwave, just barely finishing it before Laura was ready to leave for the dr.

Turns out she has dry socket in one of the "craters" with some food that was stuck in there. Dr. cleaned it out and applied some medicine. She goes back tomorrow morning so he can change it and then finally on Monday morning. She should be fine then. Once he removed the stitches and took the food out of the hole, she said she felt a lot better! Amazing!

She dropped me off here and dh left to go to the dr. for a checkup. He was back in 20 minutes...turns out the office told him dr. is on vacation and they called in December to cancel today's appt. Well, gee, maybe next time they should TALK to one of us!!! We never got the message! Dh will reschedule later.

Then a lady came from freecycling to pick up our old digital camera which wasn't working. Another lady is coming this afternoon to get a picture frame. Last night I put about 20 items on it. So I'm getting replies left and right. :-)

BD, that sucks about the workmen's comp! Stand tough! Good luck on the job hunt. I know it isn't easy!

Kelly, LOL at Annie!!! You should send that video to Funniest Home Videos or something. Amazing! Guess you need those baby locks for the doors.

Liz, what's on board for today? No more news on Charles' job prospects?

Julie, good to hear from you. Batten down the hatches!

Ouch.. dry sockets are painful! Glen had that, and he was so bothered by it, he cut out his own stitches, thinking that would help.. stupid boy!

We have never had problems with cats on surfaces.. they often show interest in the food on the table, but a quick yell from us stops that.. but not the kitchen surfaces. However, when mum was here for dinner once, she had it on a tray on her lap (long story).. Louis had been asleep on the sofa, and as cool as anything, he got up, nicked a piece of chicken from her plate, and jumped down with it! Didn't bat an eyelid! LOL

BD, good luck with that job hunting!

The stitches bothered Laura too, Michelle. But not as much as the jaw hurting (from the dry socket I guess). She was very happy he took the stitches out today.

LOL at Louis and the chicken!

I know I haven't been here much, but I hope I can still ask...

My great-aunt had surgery on Monday, and she's rather ill. I don't know if you recall me saying, but they've put off her gallstone surgery for years, because her heart wasn't up to it. They finally decided they would do it, but warned her it was 60/40 that she's actually survive it.

Apparently it was the biggest gallstone they've ever removed, and then she took far too long to come out of the anaesthetic. She's now isolated because she's picked up some sort of diarrhoea bug (NOT good), she has a chest infection, and is in and out of conciousness.

She needed the operation, because she was in so much pain, and she knew the risks, but it's upsetting me to think of her suffering.

So, can I ask for prayers please.. that she either recovers swiftly, or passes on peacefully.

Michelle, your great-aunt is in my prayers. I'm sorry she is in such pain and to get a diarrhea bug on top of that! Ouch!

Keep us posted, please.

Carol

Michelle, your family and Aunt will certainly be in my thoughts and prayers!

Cats--My Mom discovered that cats don't like the smell of lemon and lemon oil on woodwork keeps them from using it as a scratching post. Wondering if lemon scented cleaners on countertops could do the same? Lemon Clorox wasn't invented back when they had a cat or I'm sure Mom would have used that on the countertops!

Poor Laura! I've also heard that dry socket is horrible and hope she feels better real fast. Did she get one of those water squirter things to flush food out of the craters? If not, a small spray bottle put on "stream" works, too.

hi Julie! Have you been reading Michigan's weather guesses? Supposed to start snowing this weekend!

Bozodog, good luck with the settlement thing. I agree, it doesn't make sense that Comp wants a "cut"

Not much on the docket today. Things got nutty and it got dark and the tree never came down. Just as well, the neighbors trees are sitting on the curb so evidently the "treetruck" isn't making rounds yet. And my tree still smells wonderful. Might as well stay put through the weekend

AnotherLiz

Yep, A'Liz, she will use it following intake of any food.

Sorry you didn't get the tree taken down, but as you say, if it still smells good, enjoy it! Don't forget to water it though.

Can someone send the ARK????? I can't BELIEVE how wet it is out there. Went to supper and then to get dh a new interview suit. It's POURING BUCKETS. Did our grocery shopping while out.

Dh had a phone interview, and they are talking flying him to a face to face interview now with the division of GE that handles pumps for nuclear plants. Location, ultimately Wilmington, NC :) :) :) but to start...San Jose, CA for 6-12 months. It's a full time position and YES, they would move us. GE also has the reputation of buying your house if you move and it doesn't sell after a certain amount of time. While at dinner, the HR person at GE Wilmington called him and said they had a second division interested in him!!! So CROSS those toes!!! PLEASE. Liz

That is Way Cool Liz....

Kelly :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

BIL is a GE Rep for Alcoa and loves his job! Lots and lots of travel for him, but he loves it (he travels to MI, KY, Cincinatti and one of the Carolinas, whatever one is the Golf Capitol...yes, they are avid golfers) AND Alcoa/GE pays for all his living expenses while on the road including 'on and off road/fulltime' Cell Phone and Laptop and internet. Sis goes with him and her expenses are paid too--sooooo they have a great income with NO expenses except for the clothes on their backs and the one week out of the month when they are 'home'!
Also, same deal with the company buying their house at original market price if it doesn't sell in 3 months and the company pays all their moving expenses, their choice of Movers and included towing vehicles to the new location! They have moved from MI to KY for 10 years back to MI for two years and bellyached till they were transferred back to KY a year ago! And it didn't cost them a penny.

*Oh, I forgot! Don't know if this applies to GE, too, but they get "the Alcoa Discount" on everything from televisons to computers to cars to cruises. And top of the line insurance with no out of pocket payments--they don't go to regular doctors, they only go to specialists!

Oh, how I envy them! No wonder they can afford homes in MI, Florida and KY and 3 or 4 cruises a year!

Really crossing the fingers for this one, Liz!

I'm saying "Hi" though I really didn't make it in here on Friday. It was another rough night and day, but I'm still surviving. And yes, where is winter?

My youngest son got elbowed in the head in the alumni basketball game. About 5 minutes later, he got elbowed in the same spot, but this time we could see the blood coming down (against the rules to play with any body fluids present like that). I took him over to the hospital and though they would have stitched, they will let me take care of it without all the costs of the doc and all. I could stitch it, but all it really needs is cleaned with some antiseptic and antibiotics put on it. And he needs to not get hit there again for awhile.

BD, I hope the settlement goes well, and the Workers Comp and insurance companies all want "their" money whether it leaves you with any or not. Gee! And good luck with the job hunting.

I trained our cats not to get on certain things with mouse traps. Okay, before you get alarmed, I don't use them like I want to catch a mouse. First, you weaken the spring (maybe cut part of it off) and then turn it upside down where you don't want the cat. When the cat jumps up there, the mouse trap snaps off making a noise and jumping in the air. The cats are usually alarmed by that and also jump in the air to get away. After one or two experiences, the cats usually stay off there. Now I can sit a mouse trap down without it even "****ed" and they stay away from them. That will take care of the situation even when you're not around. I've even stuck the very end of my pinky in the trap to make sure it's weak enough not to hurt even if it could catch one....which they won't while upside down. And, I've never had a cat hurt or caught doing that, but they have sure learned the "no" places.

Hi Julie! I guess everyone with school age kids have not got rid of them during the day. LoL! I think Kelly has already done her happy dance!

Liz, I hope we hear some really great news in the near future for you and Charles.

I hope everyone had a good day!

Dave :surprise0785:

A'Liz, wow, what a job bil has!!! I'm green with envy too!

Liz, You know both of you are in my prayers that Charles gets a job...sounds like GE is REALLY interested in him!

Dave, I'm rather skeptical of your trap solution. I think I'd have to see it in person.

Carol

Dave, I'm rather skeptical of your trap solution. I think I'd have to see it in person.
My Hunni said the cats would think it was a great toy and play with them, but for ours, it worked really well. Of course, if I'm ever around and they're in the "no" places, I enforce that with a loud "aaaattt!". I must admit that it doesn't mean that don't have slips in their memory, but then I just lay a mouse trap down and they avoid the place.

Dave :Coopwink:
