Actually, in 1995, MTV's management changed, and that's why.
I wish I could back this up with a link, however I can't find any information about this on the web! :D
But I still remember that in 1995, MTV Europe replaced more and more music video shows by other crap. Until that point, MTV Europe was managed by some woman named ___________ (insert name here). After that, it went all downhill, at least from the music video lover's point of view.
The same thing was happening in the US, IIRC ... more or less sudden shift in focus (although IIRC, it started a bit earlier in the US).
