When Im shutting down my computer it will go to that wonderfull window where it informs me that windows is shutting down and then it wont turn off. I have been just manualy shutting it off and it doesnt give me the warning that it wasnt shut down properly so im thinking that it shut down, but doesnt switch off. Has anyone else experienced this, and How do I fix it. Help is good.

several of the data entry computers at my workplace tend to have this problem frequently. in fact, we view it as a miracle when they do shut down properly. they have been doing it the whole time i have worked there (2 years) and haven't noticed any problems resulting from it, so we never bothered to find a solution...
You didn't mention which OS, but MS released a patch for Win98 which was supposed to fix the problem. It did for some, but not for me.
It has to do with Power Management, and how MS regularly screws up the implementation of industry standards in their operating systems.

I have this problem fairly often with W2K Professional.
*shrug*
I have major RAM issues though, and haven't had the spare cash to put any more in yet.

hermanm> If you're having shutdown problems in Win2k, power management isn't set up correctly. I've had nothing but problems with Win2k's default settings for ACPI, so I've completely disabled it.
Once the HAL was non-ACPI, I simply enabled APM, and everything worked nice and neat.
It shuts the monitor when it's supposed to, and when I tell it the power down the system (which rarely happens), it does it the way it's supposed to.
