Yahoo approves $1.1bn Tumblr purchase

So according to BBC News, Yahoo has approved a deal to purchase Tumblr for the rather large sum of $1.1bn.

Now personally, I've never used Tumblr, so what do you guys 'n girls think about this move? All this says to me is that Yahoo will have a larger presence in social media and will no doubt do something to annoy current Tumblr users. :rolleyes:

I'll laugh if the community gets up-in-arms. I hate a large portion of tumblr's userbase, from what I've seen of it. ~_~

i've been on tumblr for about 2 years, and honestly i don't really care that yahoo bought it
a lot of the community- namely 'fandom' blogs- are most frenzied about it
there's rumours and decidedly fake posts going around where people are getting e-mails from the 'yahoo CEO' that their blogs are getting deactivated/deleted because they're a 'fandom' blog and have copious amounts of 'gay porn'
then there's a bunch of concern about yahoo making tumblr end up like all their other projects, dead.

and honestly from my experience with tumblr, nothing can get really worse than what tumblr has always been, haha. *knock on wood*

i Don think its a good idea because yahoo bought other social networks b4 , and they all ended up closing. so i dont know

I just don't want Tumblr to get ruined. I like it how it is. I doubt they'll do much to it, if anything.

A lot of the people I follow on tumblr are fandom blogs, and the only worry they have is there'll be no more sexual fan-art of their ships
