Yes, but truthfully, which scenario is more likely? A 14 year old loving guns because they are useful tools for protecting himself, his family etc. or because hurr durr Call of Duty? I'm not saying they don't have alternate uses, but a child likely will not use them for those uses. And I feel like I should point out that plenty of us love our guns for completely non-violent purposes. I still don't see how it violated the dress code, and I still think it's pretty disgusting how far freedom of speech and expression are disregarded nowadays.
Well, the fact remains that a gun is a weapon. Yes it has other uses, but the primary purpose of a weapon is inflicting harm, be it to other humans or to animals. Your comment on the Constitution is unnecessary, and frankly quite odd. A lot of people seem to use the Constitution as some kind of argument-ender, yet they forget the Constitution has been altered many times. That is why it's called an amendment. And there are plenty of amendments being broken daily, so I never understand why only the second is so vehemently protected. When people say things like "guns are tools of violence" it makes me cringe. Guns are tools used to hunt game animals and to protect people. They cannot act on their own; it takes a person to use them. Comments like that imply belief that a gun is an autonomous sentient being, able to act of its own free will. It ALWAYS takes a person to operate a gun.
That being said, the reason this story pisses me off is that it is a sign of the direction my country is heading. When a person's CLOTHING is cause for action like suspending kids from school it shows how the government is WAY too involved in our personal lives and is in fact trying to dictate much more than it should be allowed. Things like this are the beginning of the government trying to dictate and regulate our very thoughts. These are not the kinds of things the founding fathers had in mind when they wrote the Constitution. Quite the opposite, actually.
People not being outraged by things like this is yet another sign of how complacent we are becoming.
I'm pretty sure the reason for suspension here was through compassion towards others. Wearing a shirt supporting guns after so many school shootings would be similar to wearing a shirt depicting a plane crash to a 9/11 remembrance meeting. All in all, I think the boy was planning on getting action taken against him in some way. I'm not even from the same country and I know how hurtful something like that could be.
