Curious how many have "brand new" cars and if you make payments or are ya running around in an older used car?

Not really looking to see who drives the oldest. My car that won't run any longer, well it will go forward, but not reverse. Whatever, its parked. It's a Volvo 1993 850something or other. It has 210,000 miles on it. Then we have the jeep. Its a 1994 and almost 215,000 miles on it. We drive them til there's nothing left, almost. Just started car shopping and man, it's expensive. So curious to see where the majority sits.

I am driving a 2005 Chevy Traiblazer. It has 123,000 miles on it. It is paid for and I will drive it till I can't.

DH has a 2000 Ford Truck with 186,000 miles on it. Same thing.

We hope to drive these for awhile. Knock on wood.

My van died Spring of 2010. With my husband being out of full time work for three years we did not have any money to purchase even a used car. I put the word out and it just so happened that friends of ours had a car that they wanted to get rid of. So for free, I drive around in a 1991 Oldsmobile Ninty-Eight. It has almost 200,000 miles on it. Sometimes the light on the radio goes out and if you bang the dash just right it comes back on. Also, you can't use the back right door because the interior light will stay on. Ok if it is day, but rather embarrassing driving at night. Not sure how long it will last, but we are hoping for just a little more time. Maybe through winter. Can't knock free transportation -- good lesson for the kids!

We try to only have one car payment at a time. We have a 1987 Jeep Wrangler, which my Hubby works on-it's his toy for off roading. We also have a 2006 Toyota Yaris with 60,000ish miles on it which is paid off. Our car payment is a 2009? or 10 Toyota Sienna, which is $320 a month.

We have a 1999 Toyota Camry, MIL bought in 2000 and DH bought it from her 5 years ago when she had mutliple accidents and no longer allowed to drive. It has 170k+ miles on it.

Bought a 2002 Kia Sedona with 80k miles for $3,500 in 2009, it's running fine. We had to do some work on air condition when we bought it. Replaced the tires and battery last year. It has 120k miles on it right now.

Both are paid for and we plan to drive them until they died. :-)

Our newest car is a 1998 Taurus...then a 1994 Taurus...then a 1990 Ford F-150 pickup...then a 1990 Dodge Raider...but DH is looking @ a 2002 Escape...

We always buy used, and drive them until they're near death, then part them out...

The only new car I ever had was a 1972 Gremlin...it rusted to death...

we have a 03 Mercury Sable that is about to be paid off(well, in a bout 6 months)

we also have a 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager that is about to get junked...so will be on the lookout for a cheap, good running vehicle very soon so we both have a car.

We have a 2003 Dodge Durango that was bought new and now has about 120,000 miles on it and a 2008 Dodge magnum that we bought used that has about 80,000 miles on it.

I doubt I would ever buy a new car, used is fine for me. DH was an "always new" person, but they don't make the Magnum anymore & that's what I wanted, so he's coming around. :) We have low payments on both- even the '03. DH leased it at first and then bought it. Long story. we'll be driving both of them until they croak, unless we give them to the kids.

I drive a 2003 Pt Cruiser, and i'll probably be driving it 10 years from now. The car before that was a 15 year old Geo Storm. I hated that car, and my husband wanted to keep it, but when I was pregnant with my son, I knew I never wanted to put my baby in that car, and bought the PT. Cruiser. I have never owned a new car, and probably never will. I don't like being tied down to payments.

One vehicle- that we bought new and will drive forever (or until we pass it on to our now 9yo!) is a 2005 Honda Element 5sp manual with about 114K- love that one!

We had a 2000 Mazda MPV that we bought in 2005 with 60K miles and took it up over 120Kish when we "Cash for Clunkers"'d it two summers ago. We ended up getting a Nissan Cube- cute, roomy and pretty fuel efficient for all its non-aerodynamicness!

And yes, we do like the boxy look!

I have a 2000 Toyota Echo that I bought used in 2004. It has about 75K miles on it and I haven't had too many problems with it (at least not very expensive ones.) I traded in an 87 Chevy Nova when I bought this car. Let's just say they were doing me a favor by taking that thing off the road. :giggles:

I drive a 2004 ford freestar van with 72k miles. We owe about $5k on it and the payment is $175 mo. DH just bought a really nice looking 2001 Audi A6 with 140k miles on it for $6300. It runs great and just had new brakes and tie rods done before we bought it. We'll probably trade up the van in the next couple of years if it is in the financial cards. DH works from home so he doesn't drive very far -- he'll drive the Audi until it dies, and hoopefully that won't be until it is around 250k miles.

We just bought a new 2011 Madza 3 a couple of weeks ago. DH had a 2006 Chevy Impala SS that was burning 1.5 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. Went through tons of testing for it for a year, but GM would still not replace the motor even though it was still under warranty. Horrible customer service...we will never again buy a GM product. We could have paid for it in cash, but decided to keep the money in savings, since we got 0% APR. So now we have $150 a month payments.

I have a 2006 Toyota Corolla which I will probably drive until it starts having major problems. If we have another child, we will probably end up buying a bigger family sedan or we will buy a van. We are partial to Honda's products since they last forever, but they tend to retain their value, so almost worth it to buy new. I guess we will see how our finances are when the time comes. My goal is to buy each car in cash or get 0% financing and at least have the money to cover the full amount in the bank.

Bought brand new in 2004. Had it paid off, but borrowed against it for low interest rate rather than pay credit card debt. Will be paid off for the second time in 2 years.

Has 110K miles on it and I love it.

I drive 1999 monte carlo ss, 160k miles runs great still but I would like a newer one before it does start to fall apart. Hubby drives 2005 chevy truck hich we did buy brand new. I refuse to have 2 newer vehicles, to me it doesn't make financial sense ...insurance and payments

2001 Ford Mercury 73,000. miles paid off. 2005 Chrysler Pacifica 70,000 miles paid off. 2010 Ford F150 4000 miles paid off. All part of the retirement plan I do not want any payments. But then again my youngest son gets his drivers lic. in a year in a half so will probably be adding to the list.
