I knew some folks who had a rusted out floor board in their vehicle. Well, they swiped the 'for sale" sign from across the street and bolted it to the floor board.
Umm really hoping Betty Spiller doesn't read here... not that I know these folks or anything :20:
Bought a 2001 Subaru Forester stick with 145,000 last month for $3500 (plus god-awful tax). Looks like new. Put it on my Discover card and made some serious cash back rewards! The car replaced the 1989 Tracer that I bought new. Figured it was time to replace it.
We have a 2005 dodge grand caravan...just replaced the trans on that, has130000 miles.
DH drives a 95 dodge intrepid he bought off of his mom and he also has a Ford F150 from my parents and that's a 1999. No plans for a new car. Just keep dumping money into these...
I drive a 2007 kia optima! I LOVE my car...at first I used to make fun of kia's but after seeing DH beat the hell out of his and it's still running I decided they are tougher cars than I gave them credit for...I got my car used in 2009 and will have it paid off in 2014...I am paying 200 bucks a month for mine...DH drives a 2001 kia rio w/over 110,000 miles on it and after many yrs. of abuse...not changing oil on time, not getting general maintenance done, we have recently had to throw 1000 bucks that we didn't have into getting it fixed...but I am hoping it will last for awhile since I really don't want to be left w/one car. Discover card, sadly, has been our bank of finance for the repairs! Best of luck to you in your search!
Before dh and I married I bought a new 2000 Chevy Cavalier has 108000 and he bought a new 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser has 89000. They have been paid off for 5-6 years. We did buy a 99 Chevy S10 that needed repairs so my FIL fixed it and we gave him the title. He then sold it to our BIL who is loaning it to us while we are getting the PT fixed. I prefer Chevy over Chrysler because of the repairs needed for the Chrysler. They haven't needed alot of repairs, but Chrysler hides everything. To fix the water pump the whole front end needs to be removed. Normally it is a 2-3 hour job and on a Chrysler it is 6.5 hours. We will drive them until they stop running.
We have a '98 and a 2011. Both cars were bought with cash (one new, one used). We'll drive them until they fall apart at the seams. The '98 is just barely in adolescence and I'll keep it until old age if I can.
we have a 2000 dodge grand caravan 93,000 miles DD drives while she is at college
1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 210,000 running great Dh drives to work everyday
2006 Jeep rubicon 34,000 I love to drive this
We are looking for a low mileage Yukon
I drive a 1999 Ford E350 van (big), I work 1 mile from home, we have it so we can tow our 30 ft camper. It has about 53,000 miles on it
Hubby drives a 2008 Pontiac G6. It has about 40,000 miles on it.
We are in the process of getting rid of our third car, it was a 1993 Ford Taurus stationwagon. It has about 52,000 miles on it and a transmission problem, and I just can't justify putting money into it. (anyone in PA area want it?)
I have my 03 Town and Country - bought new, love it. Was afraid I would not pass the emissions test today, due to a hole in the ****ler, but I did. YAY
DH drives a 98 Pontiac whatever, it's gold and dirty inside so I won't touch it. Paid cash $1100
He also has a 96 Dodge van - paid cash $700
We have to pay cash for his cars. He drives into Chicago every day for work and he is always getting smashed into, sideswiped while parked, doors opening and crashing into his car. Few weeks ago, somebody took his side mirror out - now it just hangs inside the car from the power lines - ugh. We won't ever give him a "good" car for downtown!
We're driving them all until they die - I DO NOT want another car payment - well, not for a while anyway!
And we have a 64 1/2 Mustang convertable. After all - it IS why I married him :giggles:
We have one car - a 2002 KIA Sportage we paid cash for. It has slightly over 80,000 miles and has needed few repairs, mostly maintenance. I just replaced the radiator - wonder if that has anything to do with only having it flushed once in the 8 years we've had it. I will never buy a car any other way than cash. We are looking into a 2nd vehicle capable of light towing probably going to go with a used truck but we're not ruling out new. Last car we had I bought used in 1999, it was a 1988 Ford Pinto with around 90,000 when I bought it - I kept it through the end of 2002 and I gave it away. It was still running - on 3 qts of oil and a quart of transmission fluid per week, but still running. You knew when I was going somewhere because there was a huge blue cloud behind me and you knew where I parked because I left a tray to soak up the fluids.
I have a 2006 Sienna minivan that I plan to drive until it dies. It only has 67,000 miles on it but little things are starting to go like the radio/CD player just goes off randomly. DH has a new Jeep.
Dh drives a stick shift Saturn. I think it is a 1993. Not sure how many miles just know it is a lot. It was given to us a few years back by a friend. I drive a 1997 Dodge van. We bought it new and paid on it for 5 years. I don't know off hand how many miles it has on it, but it has so many problems. The air hasn't worked in years, but I always joke and say that's ok cause the heat doesn't work either. Dh used to be able to recharge the air but not anymore. The speedometer hasn't worked for a good 2 years so we got a GPS which shows the speed. The power steering is leaking and has to be refilled every few weeks. Some kind of hoses must be loose as the front passenger side gets a lot of air rushing in by the floor. It gets pretty cold over there in the winter. The front passenger door can be a little funny about closing so I have to be sure it really is closed. The running board by the driver's side broke with my foot stuck in it one day when I was getting in. It has a big crack and I'm always afraid it will trap my foot again when I get in. The big problem is there is something wrong with the rear end. We paid maybe $500-$700 awhile back hoping it was something more minor but it is not. Dh thinks it is something expensive. We are supposed to get our emmissions test but I know the check engine light is on right now and I guess that is not a good thing. It comes on every so often and then eventually goes off again. Hope it will go off before we have to have it tested. Dh would love a new vehicle or even a different used one. I know we cannot afford it and prefer to drive it into the ground. Chances are anyway that when you buy a used vehicle it will have problems too.
