What's new

Let's continue to get to know our fellow CWer's............

You know when I met my husband? Five days after my 30th BIRTHDAY. I didn't think he existed. I'd tried and been burned. I was done.

NoHio, Felicia's right. My sister didn't meet her husband until she was 33. She'll be having her first baby this summer (but they want one).

I'm not totally giving up on ever getting married; I just think that finding a Christian guy who doesn't want kids and wants to marry me will be difficult. But maybe it will happen someday.

Holy ****balls batman, we are a bunch of smart ho's (with a few poles thrown in) !!

I love the misconception that people have of "us" as poor, uneducated, pinching pennies, etc. It's actually quite the opposite :)

First of all I want to say I totally respect your decision not to have kids. I know a couple of parents that should NOT have reproduced and wish they had made the same decision as you (although I don't think you would be a bad parent like them)! But I am wondering how you know for sure you don't want kids. Just trying to understand your point of view on this. And if you don't want to share, no offense taken.

I read some statistic somewhere about couponers - maybe the average annual income was $70,000 or something. I'm not surprised at the level of education trend I'm seeing in this post, but I do find it interesting. To me it is kind of like how some people view homeschoolers. Some people think they are a bunch of dummies, but I know a doctor, lawyers, and engineers whose children are homeschooled.

Well, for one thing I'm sure it would be way too much responsibility for me. I have lots of other reasons too, but I think I can be perfectly happy just being an aunt.

Hello I am Jaimie,I taught beauty school for 8 years until I had several horrible pregnancy issues.I decided to be a stay at home mom with finally two dear daughters age 3 and 5.My husband is now a laid off lineman driving me nuts who needs a job.Once my kids are in school I will be finding a new career part time.

I can tell you are a very proud Aunt!

I thought of something else. I know that I don't want kids the same way that other people know that they do want kids. I just know.

This isn't directed towards you, but you can answer if you like. Is $70,000 really that good of a salary?

Well, isn't it above average?? That is what stands out for me - that couponers have an above average income.

I think it is true that most couponers make more than the average person.

DH makes $70,000 and I feel like we don't have money.

Hey Liz,
When I was in college 18-21 years of age, I always bragged that I would have 8 kids. I didn't get married until I was 30. It took a while to find my prince but he was worth the wait.

DH is like you and did not want kids ( he knew from an early age) and he was very upfront with me. I was OK with that and I am perfectly content now to be an auntie to 12 amazing kids. We are both happy with our decision and I have no regrets what so ever.

You are still young. Your prince will come when the time is right for you. You are a good person and I know good things will come to you, probably when you least expect them.

God knows I wish some ppl would butt out of other ppls lives about havin kids. I mean wat is up with that? :surrender:

Affluent Consumers Clip Coupons. Poor People? Not So Much

Some 1.6 billion coupons were redeemed in the U.S. in the first half of 2009. That's up 23 percent compared to last year. Who is turning all those coupons in to save on purchases? Odds are it's a suburbanite who is fairly well off.

The Nielsen Company just released some new research about who uses coupons, and how consumers use them. The findings include:

* More affluent consumers ($70k+) are considered super heavy coupon2 users (39 percent compared to 35 percent for total U.S. households) and coupon enthusiasts (42 percent compared to 35 percent for total U.S. households.)

* Other serious coupon users include those from large households, those households with female heads age 54 and younger, as well as consumers living in affluent suburban3 and comfortable country4 spreads.

* Those likely to be low or non-coupon users: low-income, 1-member households, male-only head of households, African-Americans and Hispanic consumers, residents in rural and struggling urban areas.

So the people who could benefit most by using coupons (poor people) are very unlikely to actually use coupons. Why? If you're interested, there are plenty of comments—some informed, some less so—about the topic at Consumerist and Consuming Interest.

Certainly, I agree with the theory that using coupons well is not easy. To do it right and take advantage of the potential savings, you need time, patience, and organization. You need to sift through papers and websites and go to multiple stores. This can be difficult for anybody, let alone a family that's just scraping by.

On the other hand, the stats from Nielsen show that a significant chunk of people who earn decent money are big-time coupon users. If you can use them and you don't, you're basically throwing money away unnecessarily.

For advice on how to use coupons wisely, check out a Q&A with the Consumer Queen. Also interesting: The rise of coupons you don't clip out of newspapers. You show them on your cell phone instead.

Ummmm....you talkin to me???

A woman who I went to college with is married and they have decided not to have kids. I have never said a word to her because like I said to Nohio, I completely respect the decision. Being that we are so open here on CW, I thought I would try to understand why someone chooses not to. It was in no way a diss, just trying to view it from anothers perspective.
