What's new

ok bored and curious

I think the Rolaids deal was right before I started. I heard stories of people smuggling them into the store so they could buy them again.

I saw a lady sneaking in METERS during the wags $10 RR , in the baby bag. saw her messing with them to get them out and in her cart . that is DESPERATION and BALLS OF STEAL

thanks! I felt like a trip down memory lane to remember that special feeling again! I have been so burned out. But this thread is rejuvinating my coupon obsession! and i find it fascinating to hear about what brought others over to the coupon side.

I loved that meter deal. One of the Wags here special ordered for me and my shopping buddy. 20 meters each. let us each do 20 transactions. OHHHH MY GOD and then there was a toilet paper clearance going on too! DEAR LORD> :cartwheel:

what a great day you must have had! Back then I went from wags to wags. We kept them in the trunk until we decided who to give them to. We gave them to a person in the medical field who gave them to a home care nurse who gives them out to patients! I now have a wags who orders so when something is hott...watch out-LOL!!

it was great but scary too. we honestly kept expecting the manager to "wise" up to HATING on us when he kept seeing us get paid $10 RR each time but nope! this was around the time the manager on 80th had taken to calling the local area stoers and NOT JUST WALGREENS claiming I was making returns on things i had either got free with coupons or that I kept the RRs and was making returns. total BS. :hurt:

I remember my first coupon was on Nestea, way back when Almacs [there's a name from the past for those in MA/RI] was doubling coupons. I got FREE iced tea.

But it was sporadic couponing until the fall that Big Y opened their store in Walpole, a mile from the Patriot's stadium. They ran a 2 day crazy weekend Christmas stocking sale on H&B items. They handed out the stockings and would deduct $7 for every stocking that had a minimum of 5 H&B items in it [the items had to fit inside the stocking], and they doubled the coupons to boot.

I hadn't heard of coupon trading back then, only had those from the Sunday newspapers. I used to drive 20 mi rt every Sunday to get the paper for only $1, instead of $3.50, and would buy 5 to 10 depending on how good the coupons were. [I miss that cheap newspaper deal]

Big Y limited the deal to 1 Christmas stocking per transaction. I managed to do something like 25 transactions that weekend, stockpiled up all sorts of H&B items [over $350 worth] and got money back on most of the deals. Back then the store gave cash back for overage.

A few months later I discover online coupon suppliers and was psyched all the next summer and fall prepping for the next year's Christmas stocking sale. They never repeated the deal.

How long of a break do you think one would need to take to become a born again? :bee:

I dont really know. for me usually its only a few days to a couple weeks at most. but my current slump and fallen out of love has lasted months. LOL

We don't have manufacturer's coupons in Malaysia, so I have never even seen one. I moved here in the Fall of 2008, DH brought me to Walgreen to get some toiletries. The cashier at Walgreen gave me coupons for the shampoo and toothpaste that I bought, that's how I learned that you could save money with coupons!

But, I was a typical casual coupon user who cut out what I needed and threw out the rest for a few weeks. Until I read an article in our local daily featuring Kay (avidreader on CW) and her friend, they said they got groceries and toiletries for FREE.

And FREE certainly sound like a good idea to me, so I checked out the websites they gave at the end of the article. So, I went to AFC and HCW. Then googled for Jewel deals and found CW.

The P&G, ConAgra and GM deals in Winter 2008 got me into the world of freebies. I didn't have a car nor an IL driver license. I took a bus or walked down to Jewel before DH got off work, and then had him pick me up from the store after work.

Anyone remember the Crystal Light on the go deal in 2009? DH who had to drive me around after work grumbled, grumbled all the way. He was like "I am tired, can't we wait till tomorrow to go to stores?" We collected $300-$400 in cats in one night! I also got in some special orders over the weekend before they killed the deal on Tuesday/Wed! I made about $1000 in cats for this deal!

Oh to be young again.

I am at a whole different (lower) level then you guys still but I am learning. I happilly ordered my 2nd Tribune subscription today! (Yes I am adding my 2nd, not 22nd) I have to figure out a bettr storage system or my inserts. With onely 1 subscription im busting out of my current situation.

I have been using coupons since (I was 18 years old) way back in 1992. Back then, the best deal was double coupons at Eagle. I was a student with a part time job, had lots of free time on my hands, and I was at Eagle all the time getting stuff free/cheap with Qs.

I used coupons steadily for about the next 15 years but just a few here and there, the typical way most people use them. I think I happened upon CVS and WAGs deals sometime in 2006 and I was hooked for sure.

I miss the good old days when all of the WAGs RRs rolled. I remember buying 2 Kotex, paying 10 bucks and getting 10 RR back. Grab 2 more Kotex, roll RR, pay tax, and get RR back. Repeat and repeat and repeat and repeat until the store runs out of product. BUT ... back then, the stores didn't really run out of product because no one knew about these deals. I could literally walk in to my local store at 8:30 on Saturday night and there would still be tons of Kotex sitting on the shelves. It's not like these days (after the huge influx of blog/forums) where I need to get to the store by 11 a.m. on Sunday or they'll be sold out for the rest of the week.

With CVS, I think I started there right around the time the unlimited deals were ending. When I started, they had a lot of MM monthly deals and it was usually a limit of 5 on each card and they didn't really care if you had more than 1 card. Although the most cards I've ever had were 3 and these days, I really only use my main card now since their deals stink! The monthly deals were almost always MM, they always has xx/xx coupons out which made them even more of a MM, and I would shop week after week, bring home bags of stuff, AND still see my ECBs going up. At one point, I think I had close to 200 ECBs on each card. Black Friday was also a huge MM then too ... one good Black Friday shopping trip and you could easily increase your ECBs by 30 or 40 with the right mix of coupons. But, those days are in the past. CVS has totally gone downhill and I don't even shop every week now.

Kmart. Ahh, those memories are some of my best and worst. I remember that first doubles too with 75 coupons per person per day. OH. MY. GOD. I think I went every day and did a huge order each day. I remembered getting my totals down from 200.00 to just tax and then getting like 10.00 or 15.00 in OYNOs back on top of it. When all was said and done, I think I maybe paid about 50.00 in tax for close to 1000.00 worth of product but then got back 100.00 in OYNOs. Getting paid to take home a crapload of stuff ... it doesn't get better than that. Of course, there was all the aggravation of getting the cashiers to touch the right product on the screen so the right coupon would double and all that jazz but I only want to remember the good right now.

Jewel is a newer one for me. Can't remember when I really started with Jewel but for the longest time, I thought their prices were too high and only shopped there occasionally LOL. Then I discovered the Catalina deals (maybe sometime late 2007 or early 2008) and how they worked and I LOVE Jewel now. I'm there everyday and sometimes twice a day when there's a good deal. I have to say the January 2009 P&G/General Mills deal is one of my best. Made lots of money bringing home diapers, Tide, Downy, Multigrain Cheerios, and more ... I remember going out in a snowstorm to shop because the deals were so **** good. And I am still using some of that stuff because I bought so much. Your Bucks was good too and the Unilever double dips in August of 2009 weren't too shabby either!

Target and Doms ... I have love/hate relationships with them. I shop there but only when they have deals.

Do you buy extra papers at the Dollar Tree or Menards? That's what I do. I buy up to 10 papers and then buy other coupons I might need from clipping services and ebay if I have to or beg cookiemom for them (she hooks me up quite often). :)

Nope I make due with my 1 paper (if there are really good Q's I have bought up to an extra 3) and my 2 computers. I occassionally buy coupons from grocerysavers.com, but they rarely have what Im looking for and I dont always know what I will need to be buying. I think the main things I have bought frm them were ecotrin, fisher, and herbal essence q's. Where are good places to buy from?

i'm pretty sure my first score was a few years ago for herbal essence and l'oreal vive shampoos and conditioners. oh, and the diabetes monitor kits

made money on those and had tons of bottles and kits to give away

i STILL have some of those HE and VIVE hair products !
