Val - dumb question time. Why not?

I play hookey from work on occasion to hang with the boys.

You can play hookey too, just need to be creative. And yes, I know that your work is a SAHM.

Trying to get all the pieces of the puzzle to fit together for me to take off on a day to spend 8 hours (away from the house) with just one or two of the kids, isn't any easy task.

Alternatively it is just Lex and me heading out and Lawson left at home, with again, someone other than me. I figure if there is another adult in the house that you can just do stuff like that.

In reality, I have to get them ready, get all of our stuff ready, get me ready, get them in the car, get the stuff in the car, drive.... you get the idea. I'm sure it really isn't that different for you, somehow I just think it is.

In theory, it should be that easy, but when said "other adult" works, I can't just plan outings on days off of school that don't involve me taking all 6 kids somewhere. DH didn't take off work today, his office is closed for the holiday. So his holiday day off he gets to pick and choose how he spends it without worrying about who/what are happening with the other 4 kids.

If I wanted to plan an outing for a Saturday or Sunday when he is off work, it would require a strategic plan/questioning/blueprint for the day, making sure everyone is accounted for.

There is no spontaneous adventures happening for me. I think it's bc of #1, we got a lot of kids and there is no getting around that, #2, I get "mommy guilt" way too easy and feel bad leaving DH with the kids for an entire day even though he would NEVER EVER complain (this is my issue and something I don't think Dad's ever get or understand). #3 Weekends are usually filled with "other" crap that a free or open Saturday or Sunday don't happen very often.


ETA: I'm done complaining, moving on and starting my countdown to my "Sisters only trip to Miami" :) 65 Days!
 
Kids are off school, DH is home (no loads to haul today) and the house is a wreck once again. I am tired of being so picky about my house being clean. I have to accept that it won't be at all times and quit worrying about it. I have 4 boys, the house is not going to be spotless at all times.
 
I gave up on a spotless home. My new deal is living room and first floor bathroom must be picked up/clean as much as possible. The rest of the house, run thru to put stuff away before dinner and before bed.

It's just as important for your kids to be able to spend a day alone [without all of their sibs] doing something special with just mom as it is for them to do it with dad.

Why should you feel any guilt over doing that once in a while? It is for your kids and your DH is also their parent, as such it is part of his job to spend time raising the kids. If it means doing it on a Saturday or Sunday, so be it.
 
You aren't telling me anything I don't totally agree with.

Hell, I feel guilty when I go grocery shopping on a Friday night by myself. I think I should be home, having family time, doing this, doing that.

If he is off from work... why isn't everyone going to chicago.... you him and all kids in tow?

OK, not to gang up on you but was wondering if there are any updates on your sister and BIL situation with the texting? if you care to share......

I figure maybe you aren't going because it is too cold for the littlest ones. The summer is a great time to go because they have that special (I think it is on the weekends) where kids ride free with paying adults. Last year we got the weekend pass plus the kids rode free. We went to the Field Museum (we are members) plus walked around Chicago the first day. The second day we walked all over again - saw the Bean, Navy Pier, went to the beach and swam. We had loads of fun, but, of course, we were totally exhausted.

Art Institute with a 1, 2 and 4 year old? Not fair to them or the other people at the Art Institute. We do often do things as a whole family, but it needs to be appropriate for all ages.

Ugh, he kicked her out of the house (rightfully so). She is staying with a friend. Kids and BIL are still in the house. She's delusion and thinks getting a divorce will be an "easy" thing and life will just carry on. She claims that she isn't contacting this other man (he's married with 8 kids) and wants/nor ever wanted anything to blossom between them. She claims he was just someone who she could complain to and he was sympathetic. Yet in the next breath she said she purchased a pre-paid cell phone so no one could track if she was contacting him. She's messed up. Can't really believe a word she says right now. Haven't seen her since all this came out.

I totally get what you are saying. I am trying really hard to do things individually with DD14 because I felt like I ran out of time with DD19 before she left or college. The other two are going to have to shape up before I start feeling guilty about not taking them places. :lol:
 
I just got home from taking DD to her doctor only to come home to find out my cousin is having surgery tomm for a benign brain tumor. I'm in shock. The doctor told her she has had it for at least 10 years.

Please say a prayer for her. Thank you.
 
I really wish my youngest would start to feel better:(. She woke up with the horrible stomach flu Saturday morning and is still down for count. Hopefully lots more rest today and she will be good to go. Praying no one else in the house gets it!
