I am having DGS withdrawal...after nearly 2 months of him staying with us Sunday thru Friday because of basketball, he's gone back to his schedule of flipping between his mom & dad's places...he's here for a bit in the morning & after school, but I have no one to watch Dance Moms or AndyBravo with me...

canadia I'm right there with you. DS10 has been like this his whole life. He has a ped appointment tomorrow to weigh him. His ped wants to see him every three months to monitor his weight and height. He's always under weight and isn't growing as much as she would like. So every three months I get to hear her lecture me about getting him to eat and sleep better (he's never been a good sleeper either) so he can grow. :surrender:

Mrsmom- have you ever thought of a weighted blanket for your son? I just made one for mine, and you use it at bed to help with sleeping:-). I don't know much but feel free to pm me about them:-)

My DH got home a lot earlier than expected. I wasn't expecting him until 10:00 at least but 1) he did not have to stay late at work and 2) his 7:00-9:00 seminar was cancelled due to the snowstorm. He ended up leaving work around 3:30 and took side roads because nothing was moving on the expressways. He took a route he doesn't usually go and ended up driving by a Krispy Kreme and brought home a dozen donuts.

I honestly don't know if I should kiss him or slap him. He knows that Krispy Kremes are my weakness and I don't really need or want the temptation right now.

Where are you, Illinois or elsewhere? In the Chicago area all the highways were 55+ mph during rush hour it was like there was no traffic according to gcmtravel.com 20 minutes to/from ohare and 36 minutes downtown to thorndale on the eisenhower insanely fast.

That's very interesting................he does like to be snuggled up tight.

I can't sew a button on a shirt, but I would love to buy one.

If he gets a diagnosis (and I pray I am wrong!) That is a great idea that I hadn't thought of, thanks!

I don't think he would be in any position to turn down anyone that can help with meds etc..

thanks

Only my son has the kid care. The rest of us have to pay cash.

Same boat here insurance-wise, but there are sliding scale clinics, as a single person you can make $11,000 for only a $30 copay, but with a family they are very generous incomewise. And there are different levels of copays at the sliding scale clinics. Do you have one nearby?

Heartland is a network of such clinics, don't know if its just the city mostly but you could call and they can refer hopefully. They mostly do primary physician care but financially it might help. And whatever copay you qualify for covers all labs/tests ordered without another copay. You often can get discounted prescriptions through their programs if its not a cheap one thats $4 at target/walmart

yeah...we have a health dept clinic.

which is great if you have strep throat....or an ear infection. But let us be REAL....if you have any real need for care you are SOL here as much as anywhere else.

I probably need shoulder surgery...BUT will probably never have it done as the cost is out of my league. I have needed a hernia repair for years....but they have no surgeons. So, again, as long as it isn't life threatening I am letting it go.

My health care is nearly exclusively through the clinic. She writes me referrals in case I ever find a surgeon I can afford to even consult with.

DH's inhalers were $80 and $50. No $4 inhalers that we could find.

It is what it is. I don't want him to go without care that could threaten his life...that is (as far as I am concerned) what he has worked so hard and saved so long for and I have no problem with him paying for care.

But the thought of long term care or debilitating illness ....

I know it basically only takes care of regular primary care stuff (but for years I did not even know about clinics and its much better than nothing), but on the DH inhalers, have you heard about I believe its the federal 340b drug program that certain clinics have arrangements with particular pharmacies that are way cheaper than retail on most drugs (the non-$4 generics etc)? Maybe you'd qualify for that if your family income is low enough. You can't get the cheaper prices at Jewel, CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart etc it has to be typically a independent pharmacy that is specifically in the program for that particular clinic. But if the medication is pricey it can be much cheaper even if you can't use a giftcard offer to go with it.

Did you try googling whether there is any coupon out there? I remember that I got a prescription for Singulair. It was expensive even with insurance. I did find a $20 coupon after I did some googling.

Barb, my & DD's inhalers are $50/ea, too, with insurance. I have stress induced asthma that was thought to be COPD a few years ago. It was *really* bad, ended up in the ER twice. Is your DH overly stressed?

*******
Can someone in the Lincoln Way region let me know how much snow you got in terms of inches? DD's coach lives there & if it's a lot, I don't want him to shovel it.

COPD can improve with proper treatment, especially in the young. There are meds, and breathing exercises that help.

How long has this been going on? Does he have a COPD diagnosis? If he was recently sick, he could have pneumonia. Chronic productive cough is also a symptom of excessive worm/parasite load (sounds gross but if he's traveled overseas he might have picked up parasites). Any heart problems or high blood pressure? Could also be pleurisy, he would need a chest x-ray to confirm that - if bacterial, there are meds, if viral it usually clears up on its own (or could require drainage).

Did he ever somewhat drown or otherwise aspirate water or other liquid?

Out for a morning swim!!!

He told me he didn't want to go with the neighbor because he & a buddy were going to go walk around the neighborhood and ask to shovel driveways. Mind you, he did that last week when it snowed and came home with empty pockets. Going with the neighbor is guaranteed $$$$$. SMH.

He and the buddy came home with empty pockets again.

Talked to the neighbor this morning at the bus stop...DS15 could have made $80-100 last night shoveling with him. Texted him that and all he could say was "Oh well." Guess that will be my response when he doesn't have enough money to buy a car, pay for insurance, pay for gas and maintenance.
