What's new

so what are you thinking right now?

I am now driving a 2005 red Escape. Thing feels HUGE compared to my Bug and DH's mini cooper. But I'll adjust (right?)

Tons of miles but since I don't drive much (less than 2,000 a year) and it was in our budget. No way we could afford another car payment.

No car payment - SWEET! Enjoy your new ride!

No way in hell we could swing a car payment. We even talked about becoming a 1 car family but DH works an hour away and I always worry "what if "

What if DS needs something?
What if my Dad 71 and an hour away falls again?
What if....always have a "what if"

The money from totalled Bug covered the price of new car with a few bucks left over. DS has yet to see it...think he's going to love it. I know his BF who stands over 6'2" will like it better than the Bug.

I'll adjust. Helps that it has an automatic starter :)

I've been driving a full size van since 1997 and have mostly adjusted. Don't ask me to park in a tight spot, though. I usually choose a comfortable spot and am just fine with walking a distance. When I have to drive a car I feel like I'm driving a go cart.

I'm thinking it's pretty darn nice here today.....80 degrees, 40 percent humidity. 22 mph breezes. Opened all the windows in this house to air it out, re-screened 3 windows, put the oven on self clean, and hung two Staghorn ferns out on the palms. Dh is visiting his Dad, so he will pick up a Costco chicken and a bottle of Vodka on his way home. Now to come up with sides for supper. Overall.....a very nice Saturday!!!

Still have a ton of boxes to unpack. Hung my stained glass windows, hung our chandelier that we brought with us from the old house and built 2 cabinets from Ikea to hold Dh's vinyl. I might slack for the rest of the day! :giggles:

Found the camera! Looking back at some pics of moving day and found this one. I couldn't understand when a neighbor called that day, and asked, how much I paid to have my name on the side of the moving truck. Now I see what they saw!!!

Our John Deere lawn mower finally bit the dust. (it was 20 years old). So I guess it was expected, but it doesn't lessen the pain of $4,100.00 to replace it. :snicker::pout:

DH & I are so lazy on these Saturdays with nothing going on. :surrender: It's too cold for yard work, the kids aren't home...I'm making banana bread. :)[/QUOTE]

I am soooo jealous. I don't get time to go to the bathroom without someone calling my name. :surrender:

Hope your band does well, Nanny! Also hope you stocked up on hand/toe/body warmers!

Tyvm, they gave a fantastic performance in prelims. They took 1st and several caption awards so far. I hope they can keep the momentum for finals. I came prepared with my stadium seat, blanket and sleepingbag. It's freaking freezing out here and windy as ****. I'm hoping the sleeping bag will break the wind. I'm taking an hour at hotel for dinner and a short siesta before I head back. I can't believe one of our suasaphone players is here. He fainted and had a seizure a few days ago at a performance and was hospitalized with bleeding on the brain. They almost needed to do neurosurgery, but bleeding stopped and they released him. He begged the doc to let him march. Wow, I don't know if I would let my kid do that. We also had two others fall during the same performance. Too many injuries this season and lots of kids fainting. :surrender:

Nanny, that is NUTS. There is no way I would let my kid participate if they had bleeding on the brain. It's HIGH SCHOOL BAND, for christ's sake. WTF is wrong with parents? I am insanely competitive, too....you'll hear me saying to DD all throughout her season, "Are you HURT or INJURED? There is a difference. If you're hurt, get your **** our there. If you're injured, let's go to the ER." :p Brain bleeding? Ummm, no. Even I draw the line there.

Steve, don't tempt me. I could be in Fort Lauderdale by 5pm tomorrow if I left now, Golden Girls was one of my favorite shows & I am FL bound. :giggles: (Pan cooked perfectly, though...you should have kept it. :snicker: )

High School music is MUCH LESS forgiving than sports.

I will not make a value judgment about the kid in question, but I was a band kid (had a college scholarship & everything) and missing one or two things was a problem, but missing something as critical as state would be career-ending.

Music is VERY ****y, especially if you are good or have talent/potential.

so depressed, DH didn't get the temp job...he said he was one of the oldest guys there and at 46 people just think that you can't hustle anymore...the thing is he could I really think they discriminate based on age...why wouldn't you take guys in there 20's and 30's especially if you are thinking based on stamina...just can't catch a break lately.

Dh called me a walking help desk today... Definitely been feeling like it. Hope the weather here clears cause it's been overcast and or rainy much of my trip this week...not that I should complain with Sandy and all on the other side of the country

It's really gross when they come down and pluck and unsuspecting goose off the bank and maul it. It's repulsive to have to listen to.

sounds lovely, Steve! How did you guys find the new house in Florida? Did you visit before moving day to find a place? :bee:

I think he (the coyote) thinks he's found an easy mark :surrender: he's been trolling around the yard for the last couple of hours. Bonus DS10 is here so I'm trying not to freak out. at least he didn't bring friends

Just crawled into bed and it feels so nice to relax.

Started my day with some cookie decorating, which was fun. Planned on tying up loose ends for Halloween costumes and such and having nothing else major to do. Instead around 1pm I got a text from DS15 that both HS boys and girls cross country teams qualified for state today. "Can we have both teams and their families over for a celebratory cookout tomorrow?". We agree and start moving in fast forward. Entire house got cleaned. Garage got clean. Yard picked up and mowed. Food bought. How much food do you buy when you have no idea how many people might be coming? Could be 10, maybe 20, or 50? Oh well, I'm sure we will have a great time tomorrow and it's always fun to see my non-spontaneous self handle something like this.
