So we got the news that my DSD18, freshman in college, is going to make me a grandma at the ripe old age of 38.
We've gone through all the feelings since it's not what we had wished for her, but all babies are a blessing and now we can move on to be excited. She was in serious denial for months and she just went to the Dr. to confirm it and is due January 3rd!! Yikes, 5 weeks to get ready for a little girl. One of which is any kind of services we can get for her to help her financially.
She is finishing her semester away at college, then she is coming home to have the baby and start community college next semester and get her old job back waiting tables. She will be covered under my husbands union insurance, however, the new baby will not be. I need to get her to apply for public aide to ensure the baby has some kind of health care coverage. Also, I had her make an appointment at WIC. They said she needed to bring 2 pay stubs from my husband since he carries DSD's health insurance.
So here are some questions if anyone has any insight for me. My husband and I make a comfortable living, however, he would not let me have a 2nd child because we could not "afford" it. (His words not mine) So we are going to help her, but, ultimately, she is responsible for raising this baby. That includes financially.
Does anyone know if she will be able to get financial support from the state to help support the baby even though she lives in our house?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
