The Confabulation Thread - Part 2

@Dan Hutter Sounds like you have a lot on your plate. How much did it cost to add more ram to your VPS? What were the specs before?
And oh my, I hope you feel better real soon. Being sick really sucks. My diet? It sucks. I haven't been working out or anything since I got jumped last week - since I don't want any sweat getting into the wounds. =X It sucks.

Ya, anything for momma! :D
That's good that your buddy is coming back. Did he leave for a vacation or something?

Thanks. :) Hopefully these antibiotics kick in soon. The DR didn't have too good news. She put me on a daily BP medication. My BP was 240/140 today, I usually run a little high and always tell them it's white coat syndrome. Today she was having none of that and threatened to tell my mother (LOL!)..I guess that means I'm officially old for the first time in my life I'm taking a daily medication.

I'm going to push hard on quitting smoking now. I've been trying on and off for a couple of years. Maybe without the smokes I won't need the medicine.

The RAM is an extra $20/mo for half a GB. I went from 1280MB to 1536MB, not too bad but I'm still hovering at ~75% utilization. Once I get paid from one of my advertisers I'm moving to a hybird server with the same company (http://www.wiredtree.com/managedhybrid/) which starts out with 3GB of RAM, double what I have now.

My buddy is an older guy he's actually my best friend's father. He's been like a father to me since mine passed 18 years ago. He's offically a snow bird he winters in FL with his girlfriend but stays in NY the rest of the time. I tell him he's getting soft in his old age. :D

3 hours to shop?? Good lord man!
LOL, I actually move pretty very fast my neighbor often takes the ride with me and cannot keep up..I'm a man on a mission! :D

My shopping list is made out in the order of the store's layout. It's more like 5 hours total. I hit 5 stores (sometimes 6) and a butcher shop to get the best prices on everything. Wal-mart is the longest because I do all the OTC pharmacy stuff, mom's meds, health and beauty, cat food/litter, paper goods, and some food. Yup, I'm that guy pushing two carts through the store, lol

After coming home and emptying out Wal-Mart's load, I head 20 minutes in the oppisite direction to Aldi, which is a discount food store they have some crazy sick deals there and the in house brands are very good overall. I get most of our food there. Family Dollar for coffee, it's $1.75 cheaper per can there. Dollar General is next for incidentials like soap, cleaning supplies, etc. Last is the butcher I spend between $50-$80 (depending on the cuts) on a package of meat which fills our freezer and keeps us for a month sometimes a little more.

I usually do it all in one day but I got off to a late start yesterday and just wasn't feeling well.

Dan I still have my tonsils although I haven't had an attack of tonsillitis in many years. I do get strep throat every couple years, but, luckily it doesn't escalate any further than that. Besides a good old penicillin shot knocks it out in a matter of hours.

I've been thinking of getting them taken out because when they do the surgery they also remove your adenoids and tidy things up a bit. I'm a terrible snorer and the Doc tells me if had my tonsils taken out it would cure my snoring. I scheduled it once back about 20 years ago. I cancelled the surgery when I heard on a radio show I listen to that the show producer died on the table getting his tonsils out. The older you get the more risk there is for this surgery.

Feel better @Dan Hutter I haven't had tonsillitis since I was about 16 but I remember how awful it felt.

The $60 will be worth it and being cooped up in the house could be a blessing in disguise providing you are able to work on your sites during that time.

Good luck!

@Dan Hutter Sucks to hear about your blood pressure acting up. I hope things get better for you soon. How would quitting smoking help it though? That's an issue that is diet related and such.

And also - sounds like you're winning with your hosting specs. That's a good sign.

Oh, your best friend's father has it made then. That's something I wish I could do XD

Smoking constricts your blood vessels and therefore raises your BP. Even if quitting doesn't do a thing for my BP it's still something I need to do and this gave me the kick in the **** I need.

It's Win-Win. :)

Doing great workign on a vB 4 upgrade that finally making some headway after IMPEX crashed out numerous times over the past few days.

Doing good. My girlfriend's birthday was yesterday. I guess we'll be celebrating it this weekend.
nice, we'll having my sons bday this weekend too :)

Finally got him to do a regular upgrade like we should have done 3 days ago! He wanted a 'clean database'. For whatever reason IMPEX wouldn't even run on his server so I moved everything to my VPS which real doesn't have the headroom to do all those DB operations. It crahsed out after importing a 180k users once, 200k another time, my computer almost went out the window. If I could've gotten to the data center I would've went and literally beat the crap out of the server. LOL

He pays well so I cannot really complain but I haven't slept right in a few nights and am back burnering other clients in addition to my sites for what amounts to wasted time.

**** that really sucks, I would of been ticked off lmao. Especially since the servers kept crapping out and such. The VPS should of been fine to do it though, that's weird. But it is a huge DB.

Ya, it happens like that sometime.. So, I assume you're catching up on ya sleep? @Dan Hutter

Nope now working on the upgrade we should havedone originally.. Cannot win, lol but at least he's letting me take my walk while the search index is running.

Ordered my new VPS this evening from ezp.net. I've had the pleasure of dealing with this company twice. Once in 2008 and just recent on behalf of a client. They're so easy to work with and really on the ball.

My DB will be on an SSD array this should speed up things considerably. Moving in over the weekend!

I'm in a .NET class all week out of town, then a web class in two weeks.
The best thing about it is that I'm getting paid to go to class and I'll get overtime both week!

That's hot. How much was your VPS?
Ya, that's real cool, and it should really speed things up. I remember when I told one of my friends that owns a web game to do that. The spreed increase was so epic.

$149/mo base. $159/mo with Litespeed. Litespeed is installed but he hasn't charged me for it yet. :)

That's awesome Brandon. I need a job like that. :D

****, that's a lot for a VPS. I'm a fan of Litespeed, the sites really load faster with it. I was on shared hosting for a while that had it, then went with a VPS that had it for more. I don't have it on my current VPS though.

I know the price is high but it's only $50 more than I'm currently spending and I have better specs plus the SSD array. What realyl sold me is the service.
