Today's Surprise Announcement of the Nintendo 2DS

Today's surprise announcement of the Nintendo 2DS left a large part of the gaming world pretty confused: what Nintendo was thinking by creating this odd hybrid device? Judging by one largely hidden design choice in the system, though, Nintendo missed an easy opportunity to truly stun the gaming world. Instead of the 2Ds, we could have learned of an even more confusing gaming tablet?with potentially a much greater chance to truly break through.

It's not a surprise; look at the date of release. Conspicuously, it's the same day that Pok?mon X/Y comes out.

It's a marketing gimmick, nothing more.
