OK, I'm kinda getting tired of this!

There are words to describe people that are being used in the wrong way and it's either ignorance or asshatery.

Retarded does not equal stupid.

Gay does not equal stupid

You wouldn't use the "n word" or call a hispanic person a "s word".

Please, have some decency and eduacate yourselves.

You wouldn't want me to say something like "That cashier was so rude, she must be a christian" right?

Many close friends of mine are gay and I have a special needs child. SO, please, stop and think before you use these words!!!!

Ohh, and I now refuse to read the BB Spoiler thread because of the ignorant name calling. That is my choice.

Agreed!

I agree with you both!

I don't use either word as hurtful adjectives but we do still have freedom of speech, even if it's distasteful speech.

Sorry that is just as insulting and lame.

No need to be sorry. ;) You see dear the English language is an ever evolving thing. To many the word gay has come to mean silly or stupid or whatever. When peeps use the word in this way, they are not trying to slam homosexual peeps. The word has now taken on two meanings that's all. If you choose to ignore this that is your problem. BUT to try to make it more clear that my intention is not to insult homosexual peeps, I type ghey. I'm quite sure homosexual people KNOW when they're being verbally pointed at and made fun of. ;)

The word gay (as Im sure you know) used to mean happy. People don't use it that way anymore (for the most part). Another example......I'm quite certain Fiya is not of the canine species, but she certainly is a ****.

Of course! One of the many things great about the US!

Jeepmom was just asking for people to think about what they are about to post.

I believe this is 'exactly why the word ****tardilicious was invented?!

For those unfamiliar with the word, it's use in a sentence may provide some context.

The cashier looked friendly, but after she refused my coupon, saying "that will give you the item for free," I decided she was ****tardilicious!

honestly. i have a special needs child. i think people need to get over themselves when it comes to how the english language evolves and is used. its just ridiculous to me to waste energy and time getting upset at people for using these terms in ways YOU consider them to be wrong.

I have a special kiddo as well. And for me personally I'm not often bothered by the "r" word unless it is being used in an insulting way-especially when that person cannot defend themselves. However I teach my children not to use those words just out of respect for others as it really does bother many people.

Same here...reminds me of my daughter's middle school special ed teacher. She would flip out when any of the (special needs) kids would call each other 'retarded' but overlooked so many other (much more important to address, imo) matters that it was just silly, imo.

Thank you Mrsmom!!!! :huggy:

Jeepmom I have apoligized. THE END!!!!

I stopped using the r word after being raised in a house to where "retard" "bun head -appolstolic/7th day)" "n-word" "gay" "****" were common (almost exepcted to be used).

I was at the grocery store, a cashier had to call CS over some coupon thing. CS comes over, figures it out and says "I'm so retarded". There was a man with down syndrome standing right there. He put his head down and walked away sad. I called the store manager, told him what happend. From that day forward, I vowed to never use it.

What gets me about calling something gay, is that it is often used by chrisitians that bannish being gay and hiding behind the bible to do so.

Yes, you are free to use what ever words you like, this is the internet. I'm just asking that you think a little each time before you type. It's like making a blonde joke, it's old it out dated, some people find degrating sterotypes funny, and stupid really.

I am a Christian, and I don't call people gay or retarded. And I have a big problem with anyone who does. It's just hurtful and not necessary.
