What is a good make of a Printer that the ink lasts a decent length of time and the ink refills aren't too expensive?

Epson has decent prices although if you are looking to get ink really cheap, there are sites that will fill up old cartridges with new ink and it's extremely cheap.
My printer got expensive ink cartridges. So I don't have any good advice for you

Yeah Epson is the type that iv got in the house just now (doesnt work), cant remember how much the ink was for it
