    Blue Waffle revisted

That's exactly why I'm so intrigued by this thread....makes me think of smurfs. Or sounds like the name of some retro diner. Apparently it is very much neither of those things....and I don't need my retinas scorched like all yours have been!

    Hubby's leaving town

I bake for him and send it along. Biscotti keep nicely and he has them in the evening after he's finished his work. He says it makes him feel like he's still being taken care of, even if he's not home.

    Blue Waffle revisted

Oh man, I totally didn't 'get' the rhyme, but I've always been the sheltered type. I figured you would be as in the dark as me, Joan! You just post cute kitty stories...no smut, ever, unless you count your incestuous cats! I'm definitely left out....but thinking it's probably best that...

    Cheap Date Night Ideas

We like to go to Borders and browse cookbooks over coffee. Gives us ideas for cooking at home and making things that are as good or better than most restaurants. We'll split up, too, to browse other genres, but then meet back up with our piles and decide if we buy or not. Back in our lean...

Corn gluten is good for the lawn. I get it at the local nursery. It's a pre-emergent treatment, in other words, it won't kill weeds that are already there, but it helps prevent new ones from germinating. Can't put down at same time as grass seed or any other seed, though, b/c it will also...

    CW Zoo Trip

If you planned it soon, you guys could go to Thompson's Strawberry Farm in Bristol after Jelly Belly. I went and got great berries last week. About 36 pounds and paid $35. It was $7 a basket (they supplied) and it's pick 6, pay for 5. Berries were good this year. We have LOTS of jam now and...

    Unmentionables

I get really pretty things at Nordstrom Rack. Sometimes it's even the same exact 'current season' items they have at the regular Nordstroms...but at 1/3 the price. I find the racks are way better organized than the other discount stores, too.

    Kids clothes rant

For me, the kids are easy to fit....it's me who's the trouble. Small waist...less small hips! If it fits in the hips and thighs, it's huge in the waist. Get a waist size that fits, and I can't bend or sit b/c the thighs are so tight! And if I get the bigger size tailored in the waist....can...

    Stinky Lunches Revisited

How about keeping a few lemons in the office fridge? Then when someone stinks up the microwave, you can zap a lemon for a bit to kill off the smell??

    Need help- dog problems

Vinegar and water is definitely not enough. The enzyme cleaner is about $20 a gallon, but well worth it. Works wonders for vomit and other organic stains. We had a kitty with kidney disease and I was still able to salvage the carpet thanks to this stuff. You'd never know anything gross ever...

    Need help- dog problems

What are you using to clean? You need to use an enzymatic cleaner like Simple Solution or Nature's Miracle. Vinegar and water, etc. will get rid of the smell for humans, but animals will still smell the urine odor and take it as a cue to continue going in that spot. Really soak the area with...

Oh, I'm jealous! I rarely get hummingbirds. I used to have a few regular bird feeders out, but my neighbor's cat has developed a bit of a bloodlust...she killed two bunnies and 3 birds last week. And that's just one week. I can't in good conscience fill the feeders anymore. I'd feel like an...

    I'm Hurtin- sore muscles

I started with a trainer last month...he kicked my ****. My quads hurt for days. My husband had his first session last week...same thing. Hobbling up and down the stairs for several days. The two things that worked best for us were drinking LOTS of water and soaking in baths with epsom salt...

Mrsmom is right, it's all beautiful! Is that bump out a dining area or do you have a sunroom back there? I've always wanted a sunroom filled with plants...then I could have all the vining and tropical plants I'd like and have a good place to winter them....and a good reading and morning coffee...

    Gardening Tips, Advice, Successes...

Nope. They must be pretty resilient plants, b/c our house is a new build and they survived from the teardown. And this spring, we had someone come and do a basic spring cleanup....the guys pulled a whole bunch of them, thinking they were weeds (a perfect example of why I am so territorial...

Have you ever been on TV?

Twice. Once in a Rikki Lake audience and then a year or two ago when my daughter and I were at Brent Sopel's house for a Christmas to-do with some Blackhawks players and military families. The team had adopted a bunch of families for Christmas and two more families joined at the last...

    Another question...

I've been to England, Scotland, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Outside of the US, my favorite cities were Edinburgh, Scotland and Krakow, Poland. Both had gorgeous architecture. The Polish people had an amazing national spirit, too....they'd show you...

    Brisket--meat--help!!

I was rearranging my freezer to fit more pot pies and realized that I have a brisket in there....from Costco, $3.19 a pound. I think it cost about $20 overall. Just thought that a price-point might be useful when you're on the hunt, focadima.
