Dh wants to see Les Miserables. It looks good and has good reviews.
We saw Les Miserables tonight. We went to the 7 pm show and the theater was full. I don't care for musical type movies. No particular reason, I guess, and there is no particular musical I don't like. It took me a little while to get used to the singing and then I was fine with it. Actually, the movie was fantastic. Visually, I found the movie very appealing. It is also one of those heart tugging kind of movies that make the emotional types (like me) tear up. The audience in the theater clapped when the movie was over. Dh and I both really enjoyed it, and it is one we will want to own when it comes out.

Saw The Life of PI-3D Very good story and the visuals were great.

Rented from RedBox:

Arbitrage: Interesting, but I love anything with Richard Gere. Rated R. Lots of swearing some sex.

Trouble with the Curve: Good movie. OK for older kids. Minimal swearing

Watching Safe House with Denzel Washington. I just love him- no matter how old I get or how old he gets, he is just hot.

I think we'll watch The Trouble with the Curve later. Liking this Netflix/vudu thing!!

Both of those are dvd only on my Netflix. Isn't vudu a paid service? I'm looking for free.

Also "unavailable" on Amazon Prime.:pout:

Dh wants to see Les Miserables. It looks good and has good reviews.

I saw Les Mis about 19 years ago on a big stage in Milwaukee. I became obsessed with it. I have the CD's in my car and know all the lyrics by heart. I cannot wait to see the movie. :bliss:

I'm kinda team Javert. :hides:

I saw Les Mis tonight. It was awesome!!! Hugh Jackman was unbelievable and so was Anne Hathaway. Russell Crowe not so much. I think it will win lots of awards. I loved it.

We really enjoyed Les Miserables as well. I think my expectations were kinda too high, because I found aspects of it a little disappointing but overall really great movie. Anne Hathaway was amazing and while Russell Crowe's singing wasn't quite up to the task I thought he did alright. I have to say I was really surprised to feel that, at least for me, Hugh Jackman was kinda the weakest link. Given that he's the only member of the cast that's actually starred in a musical on Broadway--I guess I expected more...

Dh just read that last post and pointed out that Colm Wilkinson was in the movie and he certainly starred in a show on Broadway--but if you blinked twice you missed him in the movie. He originated the role of Jean Valjean in both London and on Broadway.

Watched "Trouble With the Curve" and "Crazy, Stupid Love" last night. (Tired now. :giggles: )

I really liked Trouble With the Curve, but since I like all things baseball, this is not surprising. ;) I agree with the previous review that it would be fine for older kids/youngish teens. I don't think you have to like baseball to like this movie, but it helps.

I thought Crazy, Stupid Love was great! Very funny at times and an overall cute movie. Ryan Gosling is just the cutest thing ever. Great cast with him, Steve Carrel, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, Marissa Tomei & Kevin Bacon.

Watched Pitch Perfect tonight. Very cute, although there's a vomit joke twice that I didn't like (I just really hate watching people vomit on TV/movies).

It definitely helps if you enjoy acappella singing. If you don't I'm not sure you'd enjoy big chunks of the movie.

My niece was Cosette in a couple theatrical productions of Les Mis and she says "Does anybody realize that Hugh Jackman's part was transposed down a minor third!?!? If you can't hit the b natural, you have no business playing jean valjean."

I really don't care about that and I thought his acting made up for it. I figure that if they can make me cry, they are doing a good job.

I saw Parental Guidance on Saturday- it was really funny and cute. You will definitely laugh - it reminds me so much of when my mom watches our children - she does not have a computer let alone an ipad, etc. So I kept thinking when this would be my mom to a t with the automation of the house.

Just watched 21 Jump Street. I thought it was funny, DH didn't like it. Neither of us saw the original series. It's a mindless movie that you can watch while doing other things.

we watched pitch perfect 2 days in a row..we loved it! we watched trouble with the curve yesterday..not bad kinda cute. also watched crazy stupid love a while back I really liked it

We wanted to see Les Miserables last night but it was sold out by the time we got there. The next movie up was Silver Linings Playbook (Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence) and it was pretty good. It wouldn't have been a movie that I would have seen in a theater typically (more like a movie I would have rented at home since there wasn't any major action sequences or cinematography) but it was better than I thought it would be. Some scenes were pretty funny!

BFF and I have been tossing around the idea of seeing this. From what I understand people either really love it or really hate it. Frankly, 2 1/2 hours is a bit much for both of us to be sitting.

DS took me to Les Mis last week (part of my Christmas present as there was no way DH would sit thru it)...Even tho I was familiar with most of the songs, I'd never seen the play, so it was nice to see/hear how they fit in with the story...they could have cut 15-20 minutes easily...I teared up too...afterwards, the ladies' room was full of folks putting cold water on their faces...

I saw silver linings playbook--I really liked it--

also saw argo--loved it

then saw zero dark thirty--good story--lol ehhh it was just okay imo
