If you medicatate for ADHD

How are things going? Just thinkin of you while I'm sitting here keeping ds1 focused on homework (he actually asked me to help him).

So, the other day I go to get Jack early from school. I'm waiting at the office when J and his teacher come down (yeah she left the class alone to come talk with me) She tells me he had a REAL bad day. So I'm thinking about that morning and realize I gave him his milk with no pill. Ugh....I felt so bad for him and especially his teacher! Plus he had a social studies test that day but happy to report he got an A on it. You can bet I won't make that mistake again!

Aw poor Jack. My kids are off school today and tomorrow. We have seen some improvements. His teacher is being a big ole **** and won't admit there's been a different. Well she says "I liiiiiiiiiittle better." Um ok he's been on blue (best color on daily discipline chart) a few times since (never has before) and has been getting a lot more work done in school. She's not being encouraging to him at all. He had a horrible day monday and came out of school crying. She made him stay in for both recesses. One because he wouldn't finish his lunch. @@ Needless to say I had a lil "chat" with her about that. I told her flat out that a sweet little second grader shouldn't be so upset about his school day because that won't help his progress at all to get down on school and that I don't care if he finishes his lunch as long as he eats something.

He's almost done with the supply of patches then I'll talk to the doc and she'll prolly up the dose a little. She wanted to start really low. But things that used to be tough like taking him into a store (because he was all over the place) is soooooo much easier now.

Thanks for asking Anne. Yay on Jack's A! :hiphip:

That's too bad she can't see the improvements. What's he think about taking the meds? He must be proud of himself for being on blue!

Have you noticed a change in his appetite since he's been on it? That might be why he didn't finish his lunch.

Oh yeah he is very proud of himself. We make a big deal out of it when he's on blue. My MIL made him a deal that when he's on blue he gets something. First time she bought him his first Zhu Zhu pet (he's been wanting one) then she got him the ball and next she said she get the cage thing then tubes, etc.

He takes the patch off himself then puts a lil lotion on it (makes his skin red).

He has a total loss of appetite. In the first week he came home with all of his lunch and snack. I did ask his teacher to be sure he eats "something" but didn't mean he had to finish everything. He has had food issues forever and gets full very easily and will puke if you push it which his teacher knows (he threw up several times in the caf. last year).

My DD is on Vyvanse 20mg. And it's wonderful! She went from d/f's to Honor Roll. But it wasn't instant. When she doesn't take it, we fight like cats n dogs because she is very beligerant but doesnt realize it. I give it to her everyday unfortunately I can't say the same for when she goes to her fathers house :(

We did the medication roller coaster, testing etc. Months of trial and error and many grey hairs later we found what works.

Concerta and Daytrana (Patch) is a different formulation than adderall, or ritalin. Some are stimulants, some are not. Just a little diff in chemicals or formulation made my daughter either a zombie or racing heartbeat. NOT good.

Luckily Vyvanse has been working well. It's a pain to get the insurance to cover but luckily we found a way!

Good luck in finding the right med/dosage ;)

Yeah he's on Daytrana. There are some meds that are not an option for DS because he has some slight tics and certain meds could make them worse. This one could too, but it's not as strong.

what a crap head for a teacher too stuck on being a bitoch to notice a kid making improvements...I am so glad that you have made a move and are liking what you see...pat on the back for you

Daytrana gave her really bad rapid heartbeats :( Every kid is different, but I feel that once you find what works... life is sooooo much better!

Best feeling - better grades and better behaviour, hearing your child is a pleasure to have in class...

After much ado I was able to get her on a 504 plan as well but it wasn't easy and frankly I don't know that it has made much of a difference.

Daytrana works for a friend of mines DD who has ADHHHHHHHHHHD! Although personally I think she needs to up the dosage! LOL

My little guy is crazy hyper too. But better now. Luckily his first three scrips are free with a coupon the doc gave us.
