Karaoke Haters

Does anyone here beside Thunder and me recognize how JoeC always ducks the question regarding offering any concrete and workable solutions? He can dish out criticism, but has NO solutions. A "worthless" poster in terms of offering anything positive for the industry, IMHO.

I saw his answer to this and it was, in a nutshell, "what's done is done, and it can't be undone". Simple, straight forward, and to the point. Solutions to your specific sales problems are not the kj's problems to solve for you. And we are free to discuss our opinions of your practices in a KJ forum, no? I would imagine he serves the "industry" very well on a nightly basis. Or do you now see only yourself and your company as "The Industry"?? The negative comments I give regarding SC are a direct result of the way you decided to handle your piracy problem, while trying to convince KJ's that it was for thier own good too. With the major players like Dan Sterns and The Karaoke Kandy Store, the FBI is involved. Kudos...two major players named and it seems like you did your homework. All of this BS about rounding up anyone using computers or hard drives is seen for what it is, nothing but a shakedown. Now bring in the KIAA and start threatening and putting fear into the venues, the ones who pay our bills??? You and any other company who decides to follow in your footsteps will be the ones to put the final nail into the karaoke coffin, not pirates, not by a long shot.

Chartbuster, Pop Hits Monthly, Sunfly, Zoom, and others are still pumping out Karaoke every day. They are somehow finding ways to survive the 90-95% piracy rate [I see it's gone up a bit more, huh?]. Still available on the same old cdg format, with no silly 8 page agreements to sign. So somebody is buying something.

And before you dismiss me as being part of the anti-SC contingent, allow me to say this now, in case I haven't before. I love your product. Great quality, way to go. Top notch, for sure.

I plan on buying more of them, but I'm still gonna get them from eBay to save a few bucks. Just last night I was at soundchoicestore.com looking at the availability of the mortar sets, however. I do like your price for 12 Spotlight discs. It is unclear if these are still available, one link says no, but another still allows you to add it to a shopping cart. I took a serious look at the gem series and it's not for me. Never in a million years would I consider signing that agreement, but for those that will, if they're happy then I'll be happy for them.

I also like the little dig, front and center of you homepage, where a KJ would go to purchase from you, that we're mostly all pirates anyway. And you still think we're the one's who are missing something. Interesting.

They are also looking to file suit against the pirates as well, so that bird ain't gonna fly for long!

It is great that some here are very vocally supporting acts of piracy, and saying that Sound Choice isn't accomplishing anything! When the fact is none of us (Sound Choice nor you or anyone else) has any idea of what the final outcome will be! In case you missed it Zoom has "AUTHORIZED" Sound Choice to audit for their content as well! Are any of you who may be legit or legal (other than pirates) going to eat crow when you do see a major turn around in the industry! Rick and Bob don't count since they are only in this discussion to stir the pot and have no idea of what they are talking about!

I didn't say "three cheers for the pirates", nor do I consider offering my opinions of Soundchoice's chosen method of dealing with thier own problem to be supporting piracy. Kurt choses to post, I reply with my thoughts from time to time. As do you and several others. Is that not what this forum is here for???

Any manufacturer can authorize whomever they wish to do whatever they want. I know exactly what I would in regards to a suit filed against me, they can ask me for the moon and stars, it doesn't mean that they will get it. I also thought that I read SC attorney were filing these suits on a contingency basis, so I don't expect they would take a ton of cases to trial if there's no big payoff to be had. A handful maybe.

I really have no problem eating crow if proven wrong. But how will we decide what a major industry turn around would look like?

In my opinion everytime someone post of the subject dinegrating Sound Choices efforts without providing a viable solution of their own they are giving three cheers to and supporting the pirates!

I understand that those who are supporting the pirates don't see it this way, but many of us do! If you don't have the ability to be constructive, then don't be destructive, in other words if you can't offer an alternative solution and you don't support the actions of Sound Choice then the sensible thing to do would be not to comment because apparently it doesn't affect you!

If you feel it does affect you and you aren't a pirate, then you should either come up with a workable alternative or get out of the business!

1) Sorry Steve, but just because someone disagrees with SC's witch hunt methodology it doesn't make them a pirate.

2) Still waiting for a SINGLE court date ( which I believe SC wishes to avoid- just good business sense) and it's now been QUITE awhile. Also, for another time ad nauseum, SC has stated straight out that their goal has nothing to do with fighting piracy.

3) SC isn't AUTHORIZED by any agency to to anything. They are only exercising certain options than any citizen has to ATTEMPT to get certain parties to comply with their WISHES through intimidation of the uninformed.

So the end justifies the means (whatever they may be)???? Everyone just shut up and submit for our own good??

You won't have to wait much longer!

So I keep hearing.

However, we agree on the fact that a court decision will be of great interest to both of us. Unfortunately, no matter which way it goes, piracy won't be affected too much. :trisad:

Again at this time that is just a matter of opinion, mine just differs from your because I have already seen it having an effect here!

To whatever Soundchoice wants us to, you know, cause it's all in our best interest?

You don't have to submit to anything just do what the pirates are doing and eliminate all Sound Choice products from your system! When Chartbuster, Stellar (Pop Hits and Top Hits Monthly) and Zoom start doing the same thing you just eliminate their products from your system as well and you still won't have to submit to anything!

1) How many shows were closed down or have dramatically increased their fees in Virginia?

2) How many pirate shows do you reckon there ARE in Virginia?

Well, I wont deny you your opinion if you let me have one too.

If you'd be so kind as to point out the destructive verbage in my post for me???

If you feel it does affect you and you aren't a pirate, then you should either come up with a workable alternative or get out of the business!

I think I'll stick around in the business for awhile, if it's all the same to you. I may voice an opinion from time to time, too.

Because:

Did he just call me a ****???:tritongue:

Git' cher guns out!!:tricool:

Haha Steve you jest. I recall a man named Jim Jones had such control. Lets drink that KOOLAID cause SC says it is so. Again I repeat 1 2 1 is allowed by SC but in fact not legal. So does this make one a pirate without the peg leg?

I have now had inquries from three different venues offering higher rates than I have normally charged!

2) How many pirate shows do you reckon there ARE in Virginia?

I don't know about Virginia as a whole but I am familar with my corner of it, there were 5 KJs working this area, since the Sound Choice suits were filed there are only two and I is one! The other one was just served in the Sound Choice lawsuit, I don't look for him to be around too much longer!

So far in a years time not a single new pirate has made an appearance in this area in contradiction to someone's prediction (I think it was Bob who stated that a new bunch would immediately pop up to take their place)!

I have also been told that Waynesboro has lost 3 KJs and Stanton is down to two! (I was recently contacted by a venue there to put a show in)!

Culpeper had three KJs working that small town and it is now down to a single legal KJ!

So far I have not heard of any venues here stopping karaoke because of the law suits but many have stopped because their KJ disappeared!

I am admin here but I see the speak coming from two sides of the neck here. One says it isnt the pirates we are going after and the other claiming all the pirates. Which is it? I own my discs so not any question as to my part in this issue but I find it funny even I through argument being considered pirate status. Sorry you feel the need to drag me into such a foul lot.

1) Sounds like 8 if your numbers are correct, AND if all can be attributed to SC.

2) Out of how many? In Virginia? In the U.S.?

3) I think it was Eric who mentioned new pop-ups- and I agree wholeheartedly. Once the dust settles, up they WILL pop. Nature abhors a vacuum ( As a matter of fact, so do I. The noise pi$$es me off... :triwink:).

So you're saying anyone who disagrees with SC is A pirate?? Again??? You can have that fantasy if you wish. You would be hard pressed to find anything in my system that I don't have a disc for.

The other manufacturers were mentioned in my post simply to point out the fact that while Kurt (and apparently, you) seems to think that 90 to 95% of KJ's are pirates, somebody's keeping thier businesses in positive cash flow.
