Regarding PPD, my son was very premature, and hospitalized for 6 weeks. As a result, during my second pregnancy I was very stressed. I must've flunked some of the questions the nurse asked because they had me come in to see the social worker. We met twice, and she eased my fears a lot. We didn't have a great NICU experience, and she reassured me about the new hospital's procedures. Then when I delivered (full term, with a take-home baby), the OBs strongly urged me to see my psychiatrist (long-standing anxiety issues) within two weeks of delivery. So I did. We talked about coping strategies and what to do if I needed to take my Xanax. I was lucky, though. With paternity leave and vacation time, my DH took a whole month off.
