Why would someone choose to stick a dagger in someone else's heart? Why would a mother drown her five children in a tub? Why would a man beat his wife until she can't see out of her eyes? Why would a Roman Catholic Priest molest children? Why would a man drag an innocent woman into an alley and rape her? Why does a son murder his mother and father as they sleep in bed? Why do some people give up their lives for drugs?

Sorry, all of those things people choose to do, and the outcome is much worse than "choosing to lead the life of a minority". In fact, all of those things, people choose to do, and they result in "being shunned by family, kicked out of church and sterotyped everywhere they go for the rest of their lives", and usually a lot more... yet people choose to do them.

The findings show that identical stretches of DNA on three chromosomes were shared by about 60% of gay brothers in the study compared to the about 50% normally expected by chance."

"Elliot S. Gershon, MD, professor of psychiatry and human genetics at the University of Chicago, says the study represents an important step forward in understanding how genes affect human sexual orientation.
"It is worth testing genes within a region of linkage to see if one of them has a variant that is more frequent in men who are gay than in men who are not," says Gershon, who is also currently involved in another study of gay brothers and genetic influences on sexual orientation.


"This report adds to the legitimacy of research on normal variations in human behavior," Gershon tells WebMD. "There is an argument that has been made in public press that it doesn't make sense to study conditions or traits that are behavioral. But this suggests that there is a genetic contribution to this particular trait of same sex orientation."

That is all fine and dandy, but it fails to address why if you are born gay, why identical twins with the same DNA (hence, according to this would have the same "GAY" Gene), do not share the same sexual orientation. It also fails to address how if you are born gay, many homosexuals voluntarily change sexual orientation, sometimes multiple times, throughout their lifetime. If you are born gay, how is it possible to be gay for 20 years, then stop being gay and be heterosexual?

Further, this is not proof, but speculation. The study itself uses words like "suggests" "adds legitimacy" and "may". Promising, perhaps, but not conclusive.
 
You know what Nova...I give up...no matter what I say, you will either compare me to the scum of the earth (rapists, murders, pedophiles)....and/or not hear me.

I am sorry you had a bad life. It wasn't easy for me either, when I was a kid growing up and knew I was different. I locked myself in room, refused to talk to anyone about it. I tried to commit suicide several times, because I was not the "norm". It was a constant struggle and if you think I chose to be gay...go ahead. I know what I went thru day and night....wishing I was someone else.

I have come to terms with it and accept myself for who I am. And I have learned there is nothing wrong with being gay :toothy6: and.....I WILL ALWAYS STICK BY THESE WORDS -- I WAS BORN GAY!!!

I did not compare you to ANY of those things. You said why would someone choose to live a life of being ostracized. Why would someone choose to do something that would alienate themselves from their family, friends, and society. I gave you a list of people who do just that when they choose to do some terrible things. Never did I suggest that homosexuality is on par with those things, but rather my point was, people choose to do things that have negative consequences all the time.

Saying that because coming out and admitting to being gay causes negative consequences, no would would ever choose to be gay, just is not a valid argument. Could someone on trial say to the jury, "Come one, why would I kill my wife and alienate myself from my family, friends and society?" Well, I guess he could, but I doubt anyone would say, "Hey, you know, he is right! Why would he ever do that knowing his family, friends, and society ostracize him for the rest of his life!"

Perhaps some people never come to terms with being gay.....I know many of them, don't. So they choose to live the heterosexual life. Some people cannot deal with society not accepting them. As I posted before:

Some cannot so they deny who they really are and perhaps flip flop. Or maybe they are experimenting....some people do that as well. I could go on and on, just like you do.

Perhaps some people are right, it is time to close this thread.....not because I give up.....I know where I stand and have lots of information to continue backing me up. Personally you can think what you like.....as I said before I know who I am is that all that matters to me. And I am proud of who I am, no matter what anyone else thinks of me.

If you don't want to explain why you are white then can you explain why you are heterosexual? I would like to hear the rationale behind being heterosexual.

Perhaps some never did, but what about the rest? It is very difficult to say someone was born gay, lived an active gay lifestyle for 20 years, and then decided they weren't gay any more, yet many gay people do. Maybe a few just give up, and conform to society, I will give you that. But about the rest of them? Doesn't it make more sense that it was a preference that perhaps they grew out of? People's taste in things change over time. Perhaps what was once attractive to them changed.

That just makes more sense to me. Again, I am not presenting that as an absolute truth, but as I said, it just makes more sense to me.

Ok Anglo, I am going to walk right into your baited trap.

You are heterosexual because that is how... God/mother nature/Buddha/Vishnu/evolution/or whatever you believe... decided you would procreate. Humans have attached a pleasure aspect for it (for good reason, it does feel wonderful) but the practical use for your penis is to make a little Irish. :D
 
Lost my first and last little Irish a few weeks back. ( I don't tell everything on line) so I guess I waited too long to procreate. Not leaving a legacy behind now. Guess my namesake will die off with me.

God must have other plans for my penis because obviously making babies is not in the cards. Maybe I was just meant to be a big prick. After all we need those types in the world as well! HA!HA!
 
I still think you can become gay later on in life. I didn't rule out that in some cases you are born that way.

I think some of this actions your refering to, might not all be choices. But more like they did it because they were ill...you know like in MENTAL!

Some may very well be ill, but certainly not all. Not everyone who does something wrong is mentally ill.

No, they were exclusively gay then became exclusively straight. And again, perhaps some were Bi, but that does not explain them all.

Again, it is a matter of preference. Preferences change over time. If you are born some way, it is innate, and not changeable.

Everyone is born with the fear of height.... it never changed in me... I have and will always be terrified of heights. But not everyone is... ppl overcome it as they grow, so your comment is false!

I am looking for the scientific study, I remember reading it a few years back... let me try and find it, before you demand it!

Fear of height is a MENTAL thing, not a GENETIC thing. I guess you are agreeing with me then when you make that comparison: homosexuality, is a MENTAL thing, not GENETIC, subject to change. Subject to "overcoming" it.
 
Every behavior that a person has is due to their mental state. Everyones mental state varies.

No not really I would never agree with your views on homosexuality... but you can say what you want about what I wrote, weither is it mental or genetic. I don't give a flying (fill in the blank) anymore... I love ppl, I respect everyone for who they are and who I am to say NO to something that does not include me personally. If they want to be gay WOOOHOOOO! for them!!

I don't care what society thinks or say, they do not rule the world or how I think. If you want to be ruled and go by what society says... good for you, but it's not for me!
