Holy crap, kindergarten is not what it used to be. It seems as though the standards are very high in our district, which is good, but now I am wondering if DS is ready. He is one of the younger kids in his preschool class and is a bit immature. Academically he already knows the stuff they are learning in preschool so he needs something more challenging, but kindergarten seems way advanced. By the end they need to write 5 sentences on topic and read books (without high repetition words/phrases).
 
He will learn so much in that first year that the 5 sentences will be easy.

Kids are so smart!
 
I am tired of the cold weather

I want to be outside, I want to start planting a bigger garden, I want to be warmed by the sun.

I want spring!
 
Just got word that my aunt & uncle's niece [daughter of one of his late sisters] died yesterday. :pout:

She was already an adult when I was a kid. I remember her as dressing really cool, like an extremely sophisticated hippie. She had knee-high boots to die for.

Need to find my dress long coat & get it cleaned in time for the funeral on Monday.

Weird thing is that one of my my aunt & uncle's daughters was already planning to fly in for the 3 day weekend to visit her folks. Now she'll be here to attend Elaine's funeral.

I think the last time I saw Elaine [she's not on my side of the family] was either at her mom's funeral or a bar mitzvah. I loved Elaine's mom, she was a hoot. Her mom lived to well into her 90s & had 3 husbands. She buried all 3 & had a bf when she finally passed.
 
OK. About 8 - 10 years ago when I was down here visiting Dh's parents, I found a small air plant (Tillandsia) that got blown out of a tree. (Anyway, I 'think' it's the same one!:giggles:)....and stuck it on the tree in the back yard.

Well.....it, or it's pup, as they are called, was here when we moved here.

Mind you, this thing is 2 1/2 feet wide now!!!!

Well....it's going to bloom, as you can see in the next pic, with the spike shooting up the center. The bloom will get 4 - 5 feet tall!!! Don't know what it looks like, but I'll keep posting pics as it grows.

After it blooms, it dies and leaves 'pups' and seeds for new ones.
I'll make sure to collect those seeds!


ETA: I just went and measured this thing....it's 57 inches wide, (4' 9")!!!!!!! :lol:

OMG! I can't wait to see it!!!! I bet it'll be beautiful!!!
 
I am dragging! DD14 has games at 11, 12:15 & 1:30am. :gah: I am going to be a wreck driving home at 3:00am. Definitely treating myself to a late night Starbucks on the way. Hopefully she will play...I should bring my portable hammock. :giggles: I don't understand why we can't play during the day. Is this supposed to be fun? Cuz it's not.

DH is building the attic stairs. :bliss:
 
Shoot! That would've been fun! Maybe you could borrow one of our pitchers. IDK why we have 5. :surrender: Makes it tough for any of them to get quality mound time, and they are all pretty good. Glad my DD isn't one.

Made a weighted blanket for my son tonight, in an effort to help his behavior/sensory issues. They normally run about $100, I made this myself for $10. Hope it helps!

****! this happens every yr. on my bday I swear...both movies sold out tonight so no movie for me...good news was manager gave us tix good for any time! :-)
