{HUGS} to you and you too mrsmelton! You are not bad mothers...being a mom is hard, it's not always easy, glamorous, or appreciated but it IS worth it. Children will grow up to be who they are because of who their parents are or in spite of who they are. In a perfect world it's somewhere in the middle.

A bad mother wouldn't have been taking steps to monitor and know about the sexting.

Mrsmelton...a bad mother would allow a "bad situation" with her son to continue without taking whatever step necessary to try to make it better just so he was "with her" whether that was the best thing for him at the moment or not. It's hard to be away from your kids for any amount of time. But sometimes it is necessary even if it is just to give them some perspective on how good they have it.

Not trying to hijack the thread, just wanted to let Diane know she is not alone, and we are good mothers and that we have to stick to our guns and raise our children in a way that we will know when it is said and done that we did everything we possibly could.

I am so there with you, OP! I just found out an hour ago that my newly turned 13 year old son has been looking at sex sites. I don't know exactly what he has seen or looked at and unfortunately, he is away at camp until Saturday. Uggghhh! I don't remember 13 being so hard. I was moody, sure, but sex was the furthest thing from my mind at 13.

Ipod is still in the house - it will be great for me to listen to tunes at the gym and not run down the battery on my droid. It also has a new password, Itunes has a new password, PCs in the house all have new passwords.

I've had a very frank talk with her. Talked about the possiblites of how one pic could really mess up her life - IE she would love to be a Pop Singer, or a teen author. Also how even though her father works for a college, and the tuition is free, something like this getting out could deny her admission (it is a private catholic college). My BFF, also had a very frank talk with her.

We had a number of safety checks already in place. IE all her incoming emails get copied to us, she gets facebook alerts of everything (and then it goes to our emails), she doesn't have a cell phone, I have the TrueCare monitoring set up (bzz agent campaign). And after some other problems we had a passcode on her ipod so we had to unlock it in order for her to be able to use it. . . . she hacked the code.

I was going to say to look at the positive, you got yourself a snazzy ipod

But seriously? I'd get a nano and that would be her xmas present. The ipod wouldn't hit her hand again for at least 6 months to a year. I wouldn't go light on this punishment. She's too young and even though they know it all, I'd set the example for your younger DD with this.

Diane, after all the stuff you have set up to monitor- you should know you are a great and caring mom. Kids nowadays want to grow up faster, and its just a shame that some want to take on such responsibility that they dont understand. My dd8 (going on 21) has been going through a curiousity stage about sex. She cant wait to be a teenager and wants to watch things or wear things that are way too inappropriate for her age....and she tells me she hates me or that i'm a bad mom.....but in the end- we're doing our jobs as mothers to set them on the right path. We all make mistakes- the thing is that you want her to learn from it. And one day I can almost guarantee that she will thank you for all that you do for her. ((hugs))
