Getting Ready for the First Challenge for my older three kids, they are gonna hate me :)

February Challenge: Operation Clutter Control
Beds and Clutter

The Goal:
--Make your bed every morning
--Keep clutter off of floors, desks, dressers, etc. (bedroom & bathroom)

The Benefits:
--It will teach you responsibility
--It will make you better citizens
--It will build your self-esteem
--I won’t have to do it myself or look at it anymore!!

The Plan:
-Each of you will start with $28 in your jar.
-I will check your beds, bedrooms and bathrooms at 8am on school days and 9am on weekends/non-school days.
-If your bed is unmade or clutter is found, I will take $1 from your jar.
-At the end of the month, any money left in your jar is yours to keep.

Count me in!
You don't need to check, I'll email you pics every day and at the end of the month you can just PayPal the $28 to me. :)

Blonditz, my new kids are 6 & 7 and they are messy & were VERY unruly when they got here. One of the first things I did was buy a laundry basket at the Dollar Tree to use as our "Uh Oh" basket. It is similar to this one:

I also have a chore jar that goes with it. After telling them to clean up their toys, anything left out when the timer goes off goes in the Uh Oh basket. If I ask them to do something (shower, get their shoes on, etc.) and they are too busy playing with something to follow my directions, the toy goes in the Uh Oh basket. It is prominently displayed by their hallway, so they constantly walk past it, so they are constantly reminded that their stuff is in the basket & if they want it back, they have to do a chore.

The chores are the bs chores I never want to do. Wash the lower cabinets, wash the baseboards, vacuum the area rugs, clean your toilet, etc. When it gets warm out I will add weeding & dog poop to the mix. ;)

At first they would voluntarily put things in the Uh Oh basket rather than walk the extra 6' to their room. :faint: They are super lazy. After having to do a few chores, they are much better at picking up their stuff.

We are finally getting to the point where I can start adding some chores to their lives. (We've spent the last 2.5 months just getting used to living here, routines, homework, etc.) Now that all of that is going a little more smoothly, I am going to make these chore cards http://madsmemories.blogspot.com/2011/07/updated-detailed-chore-cards.html and give both of them some daily responsibilities in addition to making their beds/picking up their stuff.

See, I always felt like chore cards were more work for me. If they can remember the names of 257 Pokemon, they can remember their house jobs.

 Whatever works!

I think my kids are too old for uh oh baskets and chore cards (13 &15) so anyone got advice for what works with teenagers? :surrender:

You could get some new younger children. My DD14 always left her stuff all over the house. Now she is afraid the new kids will touch it/use it/break it, so she puts everything away. I could never get her to pick up after herself. These kids have taught her in 2 months what I couldn't in 14 years.

The sun is still out! :bliss: Seriously I think this may be the most sun we've seen in weeks!

Temps are definitely falling. I grabbed a scarf and gloves when I went home for lunch and switched to a warmer jacket.

Hum, might have to try this!

So here it is for everyone to see/read and yep read away buddy because I'm don't care that you come here! I have nothing to hide.

So after 10+ weeks of him having his belongs back after the divorce was final he is now starting the lawyer stuff again. Claims I damaged this, broke that, and took parts of sets of tools. Nope and lets go to court I'm ready, happy, and more than prepared.

Anyone ever wonder what this gem of a ExDH looks like. here is 1 of the photos his lawyer sent my lawyer showing the damage i did to his property. How exactly is standing by a dumpster showing damage?? 147 photos like this sent to my lawyer.

Top it all off with drama over DS again. At this rate I'm going to be paying my lawyer for the next 4 years. And you know what. Will do!!!

Missy, I think the judge will grow tired of his BS very quickly. It might take a couple years, but I think your exH will eventually grow tired of the expense & things never going his way.

If this is a nuisance motion (sounds like it), the judge will bar him from filing any more of them if your lawyer requests it. Uh, in FIRM language.

I'm not worried I covered my tail on this. My attitude is bring it! I'm strong enough to stand on my own and I'm not afraid of what he comes up with anymore.

I am ready, willing, and more than able to stand up to him in court. 2 years ago I would have tucked tail and kept quiet. I would have worried about what his reaction would be and how I would have paid for standing up to him.

Well NOW. Now I know who I am and what I can do. Now I am a very strong person ready to address whatever he has to bring. Letting someone else control your life is crazy and it will be a cold day in heck before he ever gets that chance again.

I am going on with my life and I'm happy. Life is good!

:hides: The wind is crazy outside. Howling & whistling is scaring the hell out of me. I thought it was supposed to die down this afternoon but apparently not.

It's freezing cold out there now - 60 degrees early this morning and prolly about 30 now. Delightful. :surrender:

7 with a windchill of -14

I wish Cookie could get her snow and then it could be spring.
